The Kadoma area of the Second Keihan Road has a thick alluvium layer with an extremely soft surface. Not only did we implement the measurement for ground vibration during pile driving in the soft ground using the PHC jacked method, but wealso analyzed the operation, the vibration acceleration and the vibration acceleration level for the construction machinery. Inaddition, when an earth retaining wall was constructed to protect the soft ground in the area of the site boundary, it created the additional effect of providing a vibration barrier that protected the ground.
This analysis focused on the plane distribution with reduction of vibration by the earth retaining wall based on the evaluation of the measurements of pile driving in soft ground and the simulation at peripheral ground. At the measurement points in front and behind the earth retaining wall the reduction of vibration was simulated with an attenuation values of 0.1 - 0.2 times of amplitude and 6 - 8dB level for vibration acceleration; the coincidence between measurement results and analysisresults in the 5- 10 Hz vibration range were also confirmed. It is clear that the set-up of the earth retaining wall concludes theavailable countermeasure method for vibration in soft ground although it is limited in the total area to reduce vibration.
