To determine about 1 μg of Sr in soil, a method of emission spectrography, based upon a powder method with Cr internal standard has been developed. The addition of silica and potassium phosphate makes the intensity of Sr-and Cr-lines tend to decrease in the earlier period of arcing, but to increase in the later period. Small amounts of these chemicals are added in consideration of the composition of soil. From the calibration curve and the effect of Ca addition, this method is presumed to be applicable to the determination of O.5 to 10 μg of Sr in 150 mg of powder (3.3-67ppm) in the presence of 500 μg (0.3%) of Ca. This analytical condition is considered favorable for the determination of Sr in soil.
