The globule arc excitation method of spectrochemical analysis is studied for the determination of elements in boiler or condenser tube scale.
The globules made of sample scale admixed with cupric oxide in ratio 1: 1, are excited by d.c. 280V 0.8 A.
The results are summarized as follows:
1.By the proposed method, major elements (Fe, Mg) and minor elements (Ni, Co, Cr, Zn and Mn) in the scale can be determined in one excitation with acceptable precision.
2. The volatilization curve of each element in the sample globule is nearly constant during 30 to 105 sec.of arcing.
3. Since the globule arc excitation suppresses the volatilization of silica, alumina and quick lime, these elements can not be analyzed.
4. In this method, arc temperature estimated from the intensity ratio of two spectral lines is calculated to be 3500°K which is lower than that of the normal arc of sample alone.
