The application of a Grimm lamp has been tried for the determinations of the P, 5, C, Si and Mn in the cast irons containing the graphite. The working curves of the P, S and C make clear distinctions among the types of cast irons (gray, white and ductile). On the cast irons of one type, the structure of matrix and the distribution of graphite do not effect on the determinations. However, the size and surface roughness of sample affect the determinations, and furthur Mg in the gray cast iron sample affects, too. The types of cast irons do not affect the working curves of the Si and Mn, and they are exactly the same as that in steel one. It is clear that the P, 5, C, Si and Mn in the cast irons containing the graphite are determined precisely by using this method as well as the white one.
