Fundamental absorption spectra of multilayer structure (MS) of several alkali halides are studied in vacuum ultraviolet. Exciton bands due to the well layer exhibit blue shifts and steeper rises. These characteristic behaviors of the exciton bands are discussed in relation with the quantum well exciton. It is also revealed that interface mixture (IM) in the MS plays an important role in the blue shift. Exciton bands due to the IM layer are recognized to be distinguished from the quantum well exciton. Interface mixture free-and interface mismatch free-single well structure is realized in annealed RbCl-KBr-RbCl, and the quantum well exciton band of this structure indicates a blue shift which is rather close to the quasi-particle model.
