Co-operative experiment has been carried out by the panel members of the “Co-opei ative Investigation Group for the Application of Quantometer to Steel Analysis”, which were organized in the Japan Iron and Steel Federation. Industrial Research Quantometer, manufactured by the Applied Research Laboratories and had heen equipped at the Government Chemical Industrial Research Institute of Tokyo, were provided for this e cperiment. After the instructional training for the direct reading method, the effort of the co-operative panel was focussed mainly to test the precision and the accuracy of that method. Standard samples and test samples were all prepared by the companies attended to this panel and wet chemical analysis were performed also at more than two laboratories independently. In spite of the relatively short period of the experiment, various investigations for plain carbon steels and for low alloy steels were performed.
It has heen concluded that the Quantometer gave an e cellent result in speed and precision, as was expected. But in the view-point of accuracy, many factors as shown in the following should be considered and the specified conditions must he established before the quantometric analysis had been applied in routine, i. e. those co-related to sample history, micro- and macroscopic structures of the metal surface and especially the unknown factors existing in the excitation procedure. Some of those experimental account were reported.

Spectrographic determination of vanadium in carbon and graphite electrodes were investigated by the D.C. continuous and the interrupted arcs excitation. This method provides for the determination of vanadium in the concentration ranges of 0.003-0.02% with acceptable precision.
Standards were prepared in the form of Na3, VO4 and V2O5.
Intensity ratios of selected pairs of analytical lines and internal standard molybdenum (or chromium) lines versus concentration of vanadium were employed for construction of analytical curves.
Some enhancement effects, affected by compositional changes of the analysis line intensity, were observed.
