In a quantometric simultaneous determination of alloyed white cast iron, analytical accuracy of silicon can not easily be made comparable with that of other elements (Mn, Ni, Cr, Mo, V and Mg).Especially, when the silicon content is below 0.7%, some large error is apt to be on the result.To better the accuracy of silicon analysis, excitation condition and effect of metallurgical history of test materials are mainly investigated with the following results.
(1) Reproducibility of result is best by high voltage spark method (power supply: 140V;R: residual;C: 0.007 μF×4;L: 0 μH;counter electrode: tungsten;prespark time: 50 sec.;integration time: 20 sec.).
(2) If residual austenite in micro-structure is decomposed prior to the analysis by heat treatment (550° for 1-3 hrs) of both the standard and the Ctest materials, better accuracy will be obtained.
(3) The line pair Fe 2714 Å/Si 2516 Å gives the best result.
