The intensity of C-D streching absorption band in monodeutrobenzene is measured in various solvents, and the relations between the intensity and the bulk properties (dielectric constant and refractive index) of the solvents are investigated.
The solvents used are found devided into two groups: in the one, the intesity decreases as tee dielectric constant of the solvent becomes larger, in the the other this effect is reversed. It is also shown that the former group satisfies Buckingham's theory concerning diatomic molecules. The quantity μ
l, /μ
l is found negative in the former group.
