A novel analog-digital hybrid processor for smoothing noisy data is constructed and applied to infrared spectroscopic measurements. The whole system of the processor consists of a magnetic drum memory and linear operational units which are constructed with integrated circuits. The principle of operation is founded on the numerical filtering using the weighted moving average procedure.Time delay of the data in operation are carried out by means of the magnetic drum memory, of which peripheral circuits are extremely simplified. The succeeding linear operational circuits calculate the weighted moving averages in real time. The overall accuracy of the system is about ±0.1%.This processor can be easily connected to the spectroscopic instruments on-line for real time operation.
Some of the typical results taken with this processing system are presented for the absorption spectrometry in the infrared and far infrared regions.
