A novel type Two Dimensional Multi-channel Fourier Transform Spectrometer (2D-MCFTS) was devised. The spectrometer consists of an Wollaston prism polarizing interferometer, two Savart plates and a phase retarding plate. This spectrometer gives two pairs of interferograms folded within the two dimensional imaging detector. By means of connecting folded interferograms with signal processing method developed by us, nearly twice of resolving power improvement was realized. Another feature of this spectrometer is that almost all the incident light intensity except Fresnel losses at the surfaces of the components can be utilized, since the Savart plates are utilized as a polarizer and an analyzer.
