Noise in the interferogram obtained by a far infrared interferometer was studied in the wavenumber -region from 10 to 110 cm
-1. In the low wavenumber region from 10 to 20 cm
-1,
S/N is low and the noise level depends almost upon the Golay cell used, but in the region from 50 to 110 cm
-1,
S/N is high and the noise level does not depend upon the Golay cell alone.In the low wavenumber region, if the noisy signal is smoothed by integrating the sampling values in the interferogram for a long period,
S/N is improved.
