    This study proposes to deal with a set of related problems connecting with the development of mineral resources in South East Asia.
    The main aim of this study is to provid a basis for policy conciderations not only from the point of technical background but also from economic, social and political air circumustances.
    The study lays two important and main standpoints to discuss all through the thesis. One is the evaluation of the provable future impact of the rapid industrial growth of Japan and the other is rapid undergoing historical changes of political, social and economic structures in South East Asian Countries.
    Chapter 2-4 deal with (a) the fabulous growth of Japanese industry during the past decade creating accessible and stable market for South East Aisa minerals (b) general concideration and criticisum to the traditional and no-longer realistic economic development theories on the under developed countries.(c) the fundmental political, social and economic changes occured in South East Asia since World War II which broadly affect the development of mineral resources.
    And chapter 5-7, deal with
    a) Basic factors relating with mining and mineral resources development.
    b) Concideration of necessary policies and conditions required for mining: development organization in South East Asian Countries.
    c) Outlining the basic conception involved in the proposed idea of “The organization of International Development Corporation” which conceivably include U.S.A. and Western Countries as well as Japanand South East Asian Countries in order to mobilize the Necessary Capital and skilled technicians for directing and accelerating the development of mineral resources in South East Asia.

    The fault displacements accompanied by relative rotation of the fault walls, cause the variations of the strike and the dip of veins or seams. Among the variations, the direction of the variable strike are shown by the sign of f' (O) =-cosθsinαcotβ+cosα.
    The sign of f' (O), however, is very often positive. Namely, the probability of the positive sign is 81.05% and the negative sign is only 18.95%.
    These facts are ascertained by statistic results of many observations.
    These characteristics can be applied for the surveying of wall movements in geological structure.

    We have studied the effects of clearance between a bit and rock on percussive fracturing of rock.
    Since strain wave in a rod has periodecity, the form of strain wave does not change, when the clearane is increased by the amount corresponding to the time of the period. In this case, damping of the strain wave in the rod is neglected.
    Therefore, it is considered that by carrying out the experiment on the clearance corresponding to the time within first one period, the effect of any futher clearance can be estimated.
    Over the range of the clearance corresponding to the first one period, single-blow tests were carried out with pendulum-type impact rig. The weight of hammer and striking velocity were changed. As a rock specimen, granite was used.
    The results obtained are as follows;
    (1) Depth of crater into rock is approximately constant irrespective to the clearance.
    (2) For the clearance at zero, depth of penetration is produced only by tne first incident wave, but for the clearance grater than certain value, depth of penetration is procuced by 1st, 2nd, and 3rd incident waves and so on. Moreover, total depth of penetration by one blow of the hammer is approximately constant, being independent of the clearance.
    (3) Depth of crater has linear relationship with depth of penetration.
    From the results mentioned above, it is considered that depth of crater is not affected by the clearance, since the depth of penetration is independent of the clearance.

    A study on the separation of nickel and cobalt from a solutions containing Fe2+, Cr2+ and Mn2+ has been made using ethyl xanthate as a precipitant. Owing to the strong hydrophobic property of nickel and cobalt xanthates, it was possible to remove the precipitate of nickel and cobalt xanthates from the solution by the flotation technique. Nickel and cobalt xanthates were separated satisfactorily from each other by washing with ammonia water ; cobalt xanthate remains as an unaltered precipitate while nickel xanthate is dissolved by aqueous ammonia solution to give an ammine solution. Nickel sulfide was obtained when the solution was treated with sodium sulfide. The filtrate from which nickel sulfide was removed was a solution containing ammonia and xanthate. Xanthate in the solution was recovered over 90% and was identified by UV spectra.
    Similarly, when sodium hydroxide or calcium hydroxide were used in place of ammonia, nickel xanthate turned to nickel hydroxide and xanthate is recovered over 90%
  • SiHCl3の精留および赤外吸収スペクトルによる実験

    To purify SiHCl3 further, an all-quartz fractionation apparatus was built. One column was packed with small quartz single-turn helices and the other packed with stainless steel dixon, and operations were carried out semicontinuously in argon atomosphere. Spectral analysis and the properties of pulled crystals showed the main fraction had been purified effectively. The traped liquid of hydrogen reduction process was separated by this apparatus, and about 34% SiHCl3 and 66% SiCl4 were obtained.
    By the use of infrared absorption spectrum, the occurrence of SiH2Cl2 in traped liquid, the identification of SiHCl3 and SiCI4 were also found.
