Team management/operations have attracted attention in recent years, as one of the most important drivers which affect the success of projects. There are various issues in team management/operations from the viewpoints of the human resource planning and the motivation. The communication has the very significant role for solving these issues. In this paper, we would describe a practical method of more effective and more efficient communication in team management/operations based on the case study of our SI project.

In our company, a project management office (PMO) was founded for systematic project success. The principal functions of the PMO are design of activities, project management review, and consultation. We have designed PMO activity, procedure of project management review including reports formats, and follow-up method for review findings. By standardizing the viewpoint and procedure of project management review, the cooperative relations in review and consultation stage between the PMO and project management teams were established. Substantial communications management raises stakeholders' satisfaction. 70 to 80% of project managers surveyed were satisfied with the PMO activity.

Conducting a project under the global environment, we have to face so called a variety of intercultural problems. The Western project management ways, introduced into Japan, has been affecting in our projects because of these intercultural problems. To succeed project management in Japan, it is essential to improve the human resource management. The authors have been investigating the partner satisfaction (PS) in the projects. The results of PS surveys conducted by us show that communications in a team and teamwork atmosphere can allow to improve "Happiness" (Job satisfaction) and "Active" (Motivation to work) of team members. In this research, we would identify the team building enablers for the improved project performance and present the practical approach for building the happiness and active team together using case studies.

The performance of projects greatly depends on the motivation of the project members as well as the abilities of them. Therefore, project managers have to pay attention not only to execution the project plan but also to their motivation. The previous researches have discovered "reward", "promotion", "empowerment", "welfare program" and so on to increase the motivation. In this paper, the author will focus on communication. It is obvious that the motivation is improved by good communications between project managers and project members. It is because communication is the fundamental components to increase motivation. This paper is based on the results of a research about communication between project managers and young employees in the software development projects. And the author have identified the strategies of communication for project managers to increase motivation of young members using "MEH model".
