A method to homogenize the microstructure by re-melting of the samplies in argon atmosphere is appllied to the emission spectrographic analysis of low alloy cast irons. The sample is packed in a quarts or alumina crucible together with 5 per cent of tin and is melted with a high frequency induction furnace.Such treatment makes it possible to analyse the samples whose metallurgical histroy is unknown.
According to the analytical results obtained for chromium, copper, ni ckel, molybdenum, vanadium and titanium, the addition of tin is effective for the improvement in precision and accuracy.
