High-speed pulse generators have been designed for use to evaluate the operation and performance of the time analysers in life-time measurement systems using photon counting technique. One of the generators provides a pair of pulses whose separation is continuously adjustable from 0 to 230 nsec. This can be used to examine the gain and pulse pair resolution of amplifier/discriminator pairs, or the differential linearlity of the channel width of time analysers. The other provides pulses, the rate of which exponentially decreases with time. The decay constant is stepwisely adjustable from 20 to 100 ns. With this generator, the accurate calibration of the life-time measurement system can be easily performed. The width and amplitude of output pulses from both generators are approximately 2 ns and 1 V, respectively. The principles of operation, circuitries, and performances of the generators are given in detail.
