A hemophiliac developed cerebral thrombosis during the replacement therapy with cryoprecipitate for the subdural hemorrhage. Because hyperfibrinogenemia, induced partly by large amounts of cryoprecipitate in this case, seemed to be one of the predispositions to thrombosis, detailed coagulation analyses were performed on several factor VIII preparations; 1 cryoprecipitate, 5 factor VIII concentrates, and 1 activated prothrombin complex (Factor Eight Inhibitor Bypassing Activity, FEIBA).
Each preparation was found to have a variable protein content, especially of each clotting factor. This should be kept in mind in the management of various types of hemophilic bleeding.
