Recently, we obtained a mixture of antibodies, detected by cross-matching test, in a serum of a patient suffering from spinal caries.
Direct Coombs test was strongly positive, and the antibody in her serum weakly agglutinated her own erythrocytes and many other normal cells, by treatment with bromelin, at 37°C. It may be regarded as a warm autoantibody of acquired haemolytic anaemia.
Other antibodies are the following:
1. Anti- M. Active in saline and weakly in AB-serum at 20°C and 4°C. It may be probably a naturally occurring antibody.
2. Anti- E. Active in AB-serum, and in saline with bromelin-treated cells at 37°C and 20°C, and by the indirect Coombs technique. It seems probably to result from the immunization due to previous transfusions.
These antibodies were also detected and confirmed through the kindness of Dr. P. Levine of the Ortho Research Foundation.
