The purpose of this paper is to propose a method for deepening understanding of collaboration activities between primary and secondary school students in design workshops prior to the establishment of an integrated primary and secondary school with the consolidation of primary and secondary schools. Each school has its own cultural background and unique activities due to its surrounding environment, size of population and history. It is therefore important to understand and discuss the activities of each school before planning facilities.

This study focused on plan-type secondary schools where classrooms and open spaces are continuous and aimed to clarify the actual use of open spaces. The research methods used were questionnaires, observation surveys and interviews. The results showed that the utilisation of open spaces in secondary schools and students’ perceptions of open spaces varied significantly by grade level. Many students in grade 3 indicated that they were concerned about the line of sight from outside the classroom. It was evident that it is important to design spaces that can adjust the environment, e.g. by blocking the line of sight.

For a shift from medical service in hospital to community-based medical service, the development of an upstream policy of functionally differentiating hospital beds should be carried out with the downstream policy of developing a system for accepting discharged patients. This study, therefore, will determine the number of medical beds and the capacity of long-term care facilities in 2020 in each secondary medical service area in Japan, and compare them by converting them into indexes for 100,000 people. The relative regional characteristics were clarified. In addition, the level of development was evaluated by comparing with the 2025 target value.

We calculate correction coefficients for development rates of senior long-term care facilities by city types and verify their accuracy in the 2025 reform scenario for each wider senior care service area. From the 8th long-term care insurance service plan for 47 prefectures, we have determined the demand for each type of care service and the supply of long-term care facilities in each area. The results show that there are significant differences in the averages of rates of users in the care services by city types and that the city-specific correction coefficients increases the accuracy of estimations for nursing homes.

In this study, in order to investigate the architectural planning methods that connects public facilities and local communities, we focused on intermediate areas and investigated activities observed there. Then we found the following three characteristics as an Engawa that connects people.

In addition to considering the specifications of boundaries and the arrangement of flow lines, preparing a number of intermediate areas of various levels will make it easier to strengthen the Engawa of the entire facility.

Although pachinko has social problems such as gambling, addiction and the impact to local community, there are many elderly people who enjoy playing at pachinko parlors. In this study, I investigated the actual playing situations of the elderly people at pachinko parlors and clarified the actual current state of them. The survey consisted of the playing conditions and interviews. As a result, the elderly rate was about 40%. The elderly people enjoyed not only playing pachinko, but also meeting and talking with their friends. Pachinko provided them with an opportunity to go out, exercise, energy and purpose in life.

In this report, we verified the degree to which the AR simulator we created in the previous report reproduced the design of the actual design panel through the experiment. The experiment also included a catalogue view for comparison. The results showed that the ARS in this study could reproduce the design of the actual design panel at a high level, more than twice that of the catalogue view and more than 70% of the actual view. In particular, the size and unevenness of the design panel displayed on the ARS can be expected to produce even higher reproduction performance.

By the infection spread of COVID-19, people were required to refrain from leaving their homes unnecessarily and lived with their families. And they spent time while having the uneasiness to going out of the residence ridge. The purpose of this paper is to clarify the activity status of usage and evaluation of courtyards in Makuhari Bay Town. This report analyzed the association with the resident attribute about the use actual situation and the characteristic with the tendency of the change before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This Research is an investigation report of “Gou Gura” in Kanbara which was designated as cultural property of the Tsumagoi village in 2007. “Gou Gura” was a storehouse where rice was stockpiled in the village during the Edo period. Kambara’s “Gou Gura” is a wooden “Seirou” construction mud-plastered board. This “Seirou” construction was appropriately completed using different height components. It was considered to be a method of assembly that made effective use of the members by assembling them from the bottom. And achieving consistent joint processing was difficult, but this is considered acceptable because of the assumption of a mud plaster finish.

Since ancient era, yoshi (reed) has been used as a sunlight screen, partition, and sometimes as a wattle like substrate of mud wall. However, in the modern era, reed screen was also used as a substrate of plaster wall. That kind of wall construction is less known because this type of wall has been believed to be just a cheap and inferior one, and it is not used late years. In this research, we collected primary technical books about building construction and plaster works, and analyzed how the reed screen wall construction has changed.

Many people with autism or developmental disabilities have sensory hypersensitivity. The spread of “Quiet rooms” where such persons can feel at ease is required toward evolving as an inclusive society. We developed the “Inclusive Quiet Room” which is a new concept of a portable quiet room that combines an easy-to-construct instant house, immersive videos, and relaxing sounds. In this paper, we investigate the effectiveness and usefulness of the Inclusive Quiet Room by analyzing questionnaire data and the opinions of participants who experienced it at an exhibition. The analysis results reveal that the room provides a sense of relaxation.

Recent years, in the case of “community places mediated by books” in local community revitalization activities, we chose 11 examples of spaces being used as community spaces through interaction between locals and people. As part of the research, we conducted interviews with business operators, questionnaire surveys and observational surveys of residents and users to understand the actual state of usage and behavior. From the above research, two things are important in “community places mediated by books”, “a medium that connects users to stay and interact” and “a space where various activities can be carried out leniently”.

The aim of this study was to gain knowledge that would contribute to increasing the number of related population using villas. The study focused on villa areas in the northern part of Gifu Prefecture and used building registration records. The following was found: a large number of buildings were constructed between 1969 and 1975 and between 1990 and 2002; after about 2003, the number of acquirers through transfer of rights is higher than through new buildings; the owners are mostly located in neighboring prefectures such as Aichi, Gifu and Mie.

Autonomous communities tend to develop their mutual cooperations especially between urban and rural area. Timber utilization can be a typical example of the cooperation. This paper conducted case studies of six autonomous communities that implement cooperation projects for timber utilization in different scale from municipal to national. As a result, it became clear that the autonomous communities adopted a form of cooperation in which strengths were utilized to compensate for weaknesses, depending on the spatial distance to the partner and the characteristics of the region.

The purpose of this study is to reveal the effect of legal district plan on land price in local city. In Japan, as the long-term population decline process is expected to continue, urban areas must adapt to the changing demographic structure by reconfiguring and downsizing existing urban areas. This study focused on district plan as a policy that has a positive impact on urban reconfiguration, and quantitatively showed the effect of district plan on land price using hedonic approach in local city. As a result, more than half of the districts analyzed had a positive impact.

This study clarifies actual situation of vacant house conversion in Toyohashi City, using data of vacant house and building confirmation from 2016 to 2022. 21.4% of all vacant houses has been converted and the most converted pattern was ‘from detached house to detached house’ with 45.9% of all converted cases. The generating structure of ‘vacant house’ and ‘its conversion’ strongly depends on building number. Thus, the older building is, the more conversion happens. Therefore, as higher distribution of converted example is found in station and bus stop area of main transportation axis, spatial characteristics depend on past built environment structure.

While the utilization of riverfronts has been increasing along with national policies in recent years, this study summarized the factors and issues that enable the utilization of rivers through the transition of initiatives in Osaka City, where active utilization of its riverfront has been observed. In addition, this study analyzed 8 cases of buildings on the riverfront in Osaka City, not as temporary structures, but as daily use of the riverfront space, from the viewpoint of the river - building - town relationship and the building interface, and clarified the characteristics of riverfront utilization.

This study aims to elucidate the characteristics of local media in Japan by categorizing web-based local media according to their organizers and activities. We analyzed 169 local media companies, extracted six evaluation axes, and categorized them into seven categories. The results showed that their operational purposes were diverse and unrelated to the organizer type, whereas their financial resources and operational challenges reflected the characteristics of the organizer. Thus, it is important to systematize the actual situation of the local media to develop guidelines for organizing new media types in the future.

Recently, urban temperatures are rising, requiring both mitigation and adaptation measures. This study focused on creating shade in downtown of Hiroshima City to understand pedestrian’s route choice tendencies. Results showed that half of the walking spaces lacked shade in the afternoon, requiring heat mitigation. The distribution of pedestrians differs by season, with a higher percentage of pedestrians on the north side of the wide streets in the fall and south side in the summer. The two distributions indicate that shade is needed in spaces where people stay and where pedestrian traffic is high, such as parks, plazas, and wide streets.

In recent years, flood inundation due to urbanization and decreasing population have become problems. In response to these issues, it is necessary to consider land use from the perspective of flood control, and for this purpose, it is necessary to understand the impact of urbanization on flood inundation. In this study, two scenarios were developed for the Kurose River basin, and the effects of urbanization on flood inundation were assessed using DioVISTA/Flood. The results showed that urbanization increases flood inundation, especially in the upstream and downstream areas, and that some areas are prone to inundation due to topographical factors.

The purpose of this paper is to propose a more detailed classification method for the orientation of machiya buildings based on the survey results using the Internet map function. The results of this paper reveal:

1) The flow of the machiya classification and the criteria for judging each type of machiya, which had not been fully explained in previous studies.

2) For machiya that combine hirairi and tsumairi, we subdivided them based on past research on the interior space.

In mature cities experiencing recent urbanization, human-centric urban planning is more important to create diverse spaces for various urban activities. Strategic implementation of such initiatives requires to understand people’s activities. Thus, this study aims at examining the patterns of people’s stays in Sapporo City, Sendai City, Hiroshima City, and Fukuoka City by using mobile spatial statistics and understanding the characteristics of land use, physical and geographical features, and facility. As a result, the pattern of people’s stay in center area of city is different among cities. In addition, there is the relationship between people’s stay and their area characteristics.

The purpose of this study is to clarify the participation patterns of organizers utilizing the event support program for town plazas, using Machiniwa in Hachinohe City as a case study. Results, 1) In terms of the quality of the system, the support project created opportunities for the formation of a bustling downtown area, and the organizers’ groups were seen to continuously utilize the event. 2) In terms of the quality of the space, the participation can be categorized into three types: internal concentration, internal and external development, and neighborhood collaboration, enabling the participation of a wide variety of activities.

This study aims to clarify the issues related to baseball spectating by classifying spectators based on their spectating purpose and comparing their game-day behaviors. The results showed that spectators could be categorized into four groups, with each group exhibiting different characteristics in terms of their stadium dwell time and spectating needs, both before and after spectating. Additionally, they indicated that offering services that align with the lifestyles of various spectators, both inside and outside the stadium, can aid in the sustainable development of pastime spectating in professional baseball games.

We clarified the role of CMR in the complex public facility development of small municipality, Yabu City, Hyogo Prefecture. In (Part 3) we analyzed citizen participation in the four stages of design and construction, focusing on the changes of the meeting systems. And we clarified that CMR can effectively support citizen participation through the variety of meeting bodies and their flexible operation of the meeting system. Therefore, we concluded that CMR’s support for citizen participation which have become increasingly important in recent years in public construction projects will become a standard work for CMR in the future.

There are few young skilled workers in the construction industry because of multi-layered subcontracting system and the problem of disguised independent contractor. These problems disadvantage skilled workers, so they should be resolved immediately. In this paper, we investigated them and revealed the actual conditions of the construction industry that we didn’t know before.

The number of Japanese construction technicians is rapidly declining, and there is an urgent need to train the next generation. The researchers focused on collaboration among skilled workers’ companies, believing their networking activities can compensate for each other’s weaknesses on their training project. This paper reports the questionnaire survey results that analyzed the form and the members’ intentions of the network, which might influence the collaboration from the perspective of training plastering technicians. This outcome will provide basic knowledge for building a cooperative system that is suited to each company’s situation to pass on plastering techniques to the next generation.

This paper collected historical materials and clarified how common people used kotatsu during the Edo period. People sat under the kirigotatsu in kneeling positions or crossed-legged positions, and the same might be true for the okigotatsu. Kotatsu was used from October to March, and there was also a custom of putting it out on Pig Day. It became so popular that “Kotatsu Kiru” and “Kotatsu Fusagu” became seasonal words. However, several books have warned that kotatsu can cause fires, and kotatsu were also heating devices that required caution in terms of fire prevention.

Some of the sketches in Endo Oto collection in Asano institute of technology depict furniture of room for honored guests in Yokohama Silk Conditioning House. These were a design incorporates elements found in Heian period furniture into Western furniture. Among these sketches with Endo’s stamp, there was one a different design was drawn by layering tracing paper, and it was confirmed from old photographs that this design had been adopted. It has been said furniture of room for honored guests was “designed by the Imperial Household Ministry”, but this research suggests Endo was involved in the design of the furniture.

Migration Promotion Housing (MPH) is a temporary residence built and renovated to support de-urban migration. In accepting prospective migrants over the medium-term, the houses encourage them to build relationships with local residents to reduce mismatches in their search for a new home or job in the community. In contrast to the quantitative supply of housing units, this approach can be said to promote migration through qualitative considerations. The purpose of this study is to clarify the concept of MPH through the investigation of the actual situation by interviews and the consideration of the configuration of architectural elements.

South Seoul City Planning (1961) was the first urban plan to build a large-scale residential area in the southeast area south of the Han river. Although not everything was realized as planned, the plan was unique in that it planned an expressway including the Hannam bridge, applied the concept of neighborhood unit for the residential area, and proposed the construction of a large-scale urban park utilizing the waterfront. All of these were the first attempts of their kind in the postwar period. In this sense, the South Seoul City Planning was a pioneering plan in postwar urban planning in Seoul.

Archi-Forum in OSAKA took place in Osaka from 1993 to 2012. The activity started with the publication of a journal of architectural thought and criticism, which later became an annual series of lectures on different themes. It was run by mainly young architects in their 30s and 40s living in the Kansai region, students and volunteers. This activity started with the ‘Symposium to Commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Founding’ held in November 1992 by the Ryuryudo Bookshop, which runs a bookshop specialising in architecture at Kyomachibori, Nishi-ku, Osaka City.

Production control data for concrete produced at a precast concrete plant were collected and machine learning was used to predict compressive strength and evaluate the results. Random Forest and Elastic-Net regression were found to be effective prediction methods, and data on specimen weight was found to be valid. It was also shown that the prediction accuracy can be improved by measuring features that were not measured in this study.

“Articulated robots” could be a viable solution to the declining workforce in the construction industry. This is because articulated robots can replicate craftsmanship. In this study, we conducted two experiments using a dual-arm robot, a type of articulated robot. In the first experiment, the robot successfully stacked rectangular blocks with high precision. Image processing technology was employed to assist with block picking. In the second experiment, the robot used design data to accurately stack specially shaped blocks. We believe that employing articulated robots for assembly tasks such as block stacking could significantly reduce labor demands.

In this study, we focused on a common issue that indoor positioning systems face: adapting to changes in pre-established environments. We investigated the use of residual magnetism, which exhibits minimal changes over time, as a basis for creating magnetic field maps. We identified specific processes under construction where the magnetic field stabilizes, allowing for the creation of effective maps. To verify positioning accuracy, we implemented a positioning system that integrates magnetic field maps with pedestrian dead reckoning using a particle filter, achieving the target accuracy. Our results also demonstrate that this system can be effectively applied in similar environments.

In practical architectural design, the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) has become prevailing in recent years, encouraging the wider use of environmental design methods that employ simulation functions. Meanwhile, universities do not provide architectural students with environmental design education that integrates these techniques into the architectural design process, causing a gap between actual practices and university education. In this study, a new program for a BIM-based environmental architectural design class was created and introduced to junior-year students at an architecture-related university to assess the results.

The University of Tokyo’s Building Materials Engineering Laboratory of the Department of Architecture held an industry–academia collaborative design studio in the summer semester of 2022. The theme of the studio was “Architecture designed by material-oriented approach.” Students designed 3D construction printing benches to be installed at Futomi Station. The first design competition in Japan regarding 3DCP was held through this studio. This paper reports practical design education from the field of building materials engineering.

This paper is a study of the practice of an assignment for graduate students studying design, conducted in the first semester of a class in Tokyo Metropolitan University academic year 2022. The class was conducted using a method called “design/build education,” in which students built a full-scale model of their own design. The results of the survey revealed the challenges in scheduling the half-year design/build education, such as the lack of time to produce prototypes after budget adjustments, as well as the abilities that the students thought they had acquired and the insights.

The purpose of this paper is to introduce a disaster preparedness game using Minecraft, designed to allow children aged 6 to 8 years to simulate their ideal shelter. Implemented at an elementary school in Edogawa Ward, the game was not only enjoyable for the students but also enabled them to explore and simulate various aspects necessary for managing a shelter. The findings suggest that the game enhances children’s engagement and facilitates the simulation of their ideas through Minecraft. Furthermore, it highlights the potential for sharing learned content with parents and friends, thereby extending the educational impact beyond the classroom.

The authors are conducting a literature survey on damaging earthquakes that occurred in Akita Prefecture since the Meiji era using local newspapers and administrative materials. We are currently investigating for local damaging earthquakes, as well as major ones. This report focuses on the 1999 earthquake off Kisakata, Akita Prefecture. This earthquake occurred near the coast of the border between Akita and Yamagata prefectures and was far away from the both capitals and people’s interest has faded. The damage is rearranged on the 25th anniversary, and the full extent of the damage across both prefectures is clarified.
