A cylindrical concrete secondary containment for a double walled above ground cryogenic storage tank will be subjected to internal cryogenic temperature loads in the case of the inner tank failure. This paper presents an experimental study on a cylindrical concrete tank under low temperature. Small scale reinforced concrete tank tests and calculations by FEM were carried out. The effects of the slab insulation on the temperature distribution and the behavior under thermal loads were investigated mainly. The results show that the insulation has much influence on the strain distribution in the connected part between the wall and the slab.
