This report outlines three similar bleeding test methods for fresh concrete using small containers, namely JIS A 1123 Appendix A (Reference), as well as JCI-S-015-2018 and JASS 5 T-504, the latter two test methods being among the test methods established around the same time as JIS A 1123 Appendix A (Reference). It describes the background leading to the establishment of these test methods, outlines each test method, and compares the test results of each method using the container specified in the main text of JIS A 1123. Using the container specified in the main text of JIS A 1123, all three test methods yielded largely similar results, indicating that they are sufficiently accurate for practical use.
In June 2023, the Japan Society of Civil Engineers Concrete Committee published a new “Recommendations for Design and Construction of Concrete Structure Using Coal Gasification Slag as Fine Aggregate (JSCE Guidelines)”. Additionally, in October, the Reinforced Concrete Works Steering Committee of the Architectural Institute of Japan’s Materials and Construction Committee published “Recommendations for Mix Design, Production and Construction Practice of Concrete with Coal Gasification Slag Fine Aggregate (AIJ Guidelines)”. These guidelines published by both societies aim to quickly popularize coal gasification slag, a by-product of integrated coal gasification combined cycle power generation, which is a clean coal technology, as a fine aggregate for concrete. These indicate the standards and criteria for the quality and usage of concrete using coal gasification slag fine aggregate. This paper introduces the outline of these guidelines.
The Green Innovation Fund was established by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) for the development of technologies to achieve the ambitious goal of realizing a carbon-neutral society by 2050. One of the Fund’s projects is an initiative called “Development of Technology for Producing Concrete and Cement Using CO2” involving three companies that the authors are affiliated with as leading organizations. This paper introduces the current status of development of various technologies under this project.
