This paper reports the mass concrete work in the construction of LNG inground storage tank in Sodegaura Thermal Power Station of The Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc.
The LNG inground tank is composed of reinforced concrete body for external forces and stainless-steel membrane for gastightness and liquidtightness.
One of the features of this construction is the bottom slab mass concrete placing work in summer. The bottom slab is 69 m in diameter, 5.5 m in thickness, and 15 000 m3 in volume. To reduce the themal stress by heat of hydration, warm water was stored on the concrete surface for curing.
This paper refers to the method of curing, pre-construction experiments, and the work results.
