A new retrofit of RC slab with high fluidity and high toughness mortar has been developed in order to relieve the problems in conventional methods of heavy equipments, low compactability and bond effects, difficulty of thin-layer construction and damages on waterproofing membrane due to steel fiber. Characteristics of the materials developed for the above mentioned retrofit is presented in this paper, and the results of the mock-up tests are also reviewed.

Rapid chemical analysis of silica fume is expected by introducing the X-ray fluorescence analysis. When the glass beads used in the X-ray fluorescence method of cement are applied to X-ray fluorescence analysis of silica fume, it is pointed out that the effect of volatile components could be included in test results. In this study, X-ray fluorescence analysis of silica fume using pressing forming sample was studied experimentally in order to obtain some basic data about the sample preparation method, which is one of the most important problems, toward the introduction of X-ray fluorescence analysis method to chemical analysis of silica fume. As a result, X-ray fluorescence analysis of silica fume was found to be applicable to chemical analysis by using samples prepared by pressure forming under the suitable sample preparation conditions, without influences of volatile components which are problems in the glass beads sample.
