JOURNAL FREE ACCESSWhile the classical concept of fracture mechanics has proved to give a useful mathematical formulation of crack propagation, one basic element in fracture mechanics is the assumption of one slitlike crack in a linear elastic isotropic continuum. Concrete is a composite material and very heterogeneous. Consequently cracks are arrested when they encounter aggregates and a large fracture process zone is developed in front of the main crack. That is the reason why the classical concept of fracture mechanics is not applicable to concrete and some new approaches have been developed. The aim of this paper is to show the limits of applicability of classical fracture mechanics concepts and to overview the current status of fracture mechanics of concrete.View full abstractDownload PDF (1642K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSHigh strength concrete was employed for construction of a ten story condominiums constructed by “Reinforced Concrete Layered construction system” developed by Taisei Corporation. By this construction system, precast beams and walls are combined with cast-in-place columns by placing slab concrete to form a monolithic structure. Most of papers on high strength concrete having a design strength of more than 360 kgf/cm2 presented so far merely describes the results of laboratory tests. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSRecently, the problems of the crack failure in the concrete is increasing in the reinforced concrete slab of the load bridge. Hayatani elevated bridge is P.C. combined composite girder, but we take the structure of the slab that we lay precast P.C. slabs as the embedded form over between main girders and composed them and cast-in-place concrete as one body, for rising the quality of the concrete slabs, saving the construction in the place, doing, the express construction.
