This paper outlines the revised contents of the JSCE Standard Specifications for Concrete Structures─Maintenance─ published by Japan Society of Civil Engineers in 2018. Its contents basically adhere to those of the 2013 edition, but present stronger correlation to the Design and the Construction volumes of the JSCE Standard Specifications for Concrete Structures. This latest edition aims not only to reflect the latest developments of technology but also to make it easier to be used by the readers. To this end, it is divided into four parts, namely “Basics”, “Standards”, “Standard Annexes” and “Appendices”. The “Standards” part is given the larger emphasis than before, and the “Standard Annexes” and “Appendices” have also been expanded significantly.

In repair, reinforcement, and extension and reconstruction work to extend the life or improve the performance of concrete-based buildings and civil engineering structures, new structural frame elements are often added to the existing structure. At such times, anchoring of the main reinforcement (main reinforcing bars) or wall reinforcement of the new structural frame element to the existing concrete structure may be required. The reinforcing bars joining the new section and the existing section must reliably transmit the generated tensile force to the existing structure. To meet this requirement, the authors developed a post-installation method for anchoring reinforcing bars that realizes high structural performance and reliable construction. This paper outlines this construction method and describes a structural experiment to assess the anchoring performance that can be achieved with this method.
