A revised edition of the Standard Specification for Concrete Structures [Structural Performance Verification] was published by Japan Society of Civil Engineers in March 2002. The fruits of the latest research and technological developments on the concrete structures are adopted into the specification. In this report, main points of the revision are explained.

A revised edition of the Standard Specification for Concrete Structures [Construction] was published by Japan Society of Civil Engineers in March 2002. The fruits of the latest research and technological developments on the concrete structures are adopted into the specification in terms of durability verification, construction methods and inspection. Furthermore, various concretes requiring special considerations (so called “special concretes”) were rewritten to the performance verification style and then are also adopted into the specification. At present, the sea sand used in concrete in the Kansai Bloc is obtained from the Chugoku, Shikoku, and Kyushu Districts, areas in which sand collection will be restricted or prohibited in several years. Therefore, the industry is now investigating the use of crushed sand, fine slag aggregate, recycled fine aggregate, and imported fine aggregate in concrete. Of the fine aggregates produced in significant quantities by foreign countries, this paper focuses on river sand from the People's Republic of China and reports on the problems and supply and quality control issues involved with the use of imported fine aggregate.

The investigated warehouses consist of the RC two-story office building and 10 RC flat warehouses that were construeted during 1923 to 1929. We report the result of the Construction method and the deterioration at the time of the demolition.
