The technical committee on applications of fracture mechanics to concrete structures in JCI promoted the round robin tests and analysis on failure of concrete structures. The present paper reviews the recent numerical analysis of concrete fracture referring to the results of the round robin analysis. The problems of mesh sensitivity and stress locking of the smeared crack model are described. The bifurcation analysis and the lattice model are also introduced as examples of recent research works.

In order to upgrade the performance and to diversify the function of cement and concrete, it is indispensable for us to characterize the composition and structure of them in each micro, meso and macro level and to evaluate their performance accurately. From these points of view, state -of-the-art methods of characterization making remarkable progress in recent years are discussed and the examples applied to the characterization and evaluating the performance of cement and concrete are given.

Most studies on the analytical methods for estimating the flow behavior of fresh concrete have been carried out in recent decade, though some theoretical studies on the pumpability of fresh concrete in pipeline were started several years earlier. The recent developments on the numerical analysis for flowing of fresh concrete in concreting works are originated in Japan. It used to be very difficult to discuss the flow behavior of fresh concrete based on mechanics, but the numerical methods have made it possible gradually to estimate the flow characteristics in the form work. The need for these analyses, furthermore, is emphasized on the new types of fresh concretes developed lately such as high-fluidity concrete or high-strength concrete, and thus it becomes more important to establish reasonable and labor-saving construction methods by utilizing these analytical methods for fresh concrete. However, it is not easy to predict accurately the workability of fresh concrete in various conditions of construction works, and there are many problems in this field. These problems and the prospects of the arts on the flow analysis of fresh concrete are reported in this paper.

We are constructing new facilities in the Tokyo station for HOKURIKU SHINKANSEN to the Olympics in Nagano. This work includes the construction of the double-decker land bridges of CHUO LINE. We designs these bridges carefully as the gate of Tokyo, to match Marunouchi office street and to give you good atmosphere. Some of them are rigid-frame type combined RC columns and PRC longitudinal beams, further them and steel longitudinal beams. And we use the fruit of the technical development about the economical high-Workable concrete, the much reinforcement concrete column with aseismic performance, the processing concrete surface and the use of pre?fabricated beams. This report describes about the piers in the bridges, especially from the point of the design harmonized with atmosphere, the structural design and construction.

“THE PARK TOWER DAINOHARA” -high-rise housing complex, and is implementing on a hilly side of Sendai city-is the first building which is applied TK-HRC 30 construction method being developed by TOKAI KOGYO CO., LTD. It can enjoy scenic beauty as the highest housing complex in Tohoku region after the completion. Overall construction term will range to 39 months and high strength concrete has been continuously placed throughout the term even in a cold and hot weather condition. Construction work itself contains various technical problems including concreting difficulities such as hot weather mass concreting and winter concreting. In this resume, reporting is focussing on the concreting work regarding to the result of pre-executing estimation, study on the quality control method, full scale mock-up experiment and actual quality control while executing.
