In the article, quality requirements for concrete specified in Draft European Standard prEN206-1 for Formal Vote along with the main topics described in the standard concerning exposure classes related to environmental actions, consistence classes, compressive strength classes and type of concrete are explained. Conformity evaluation systems and assessment method of quality requirements for the specified concrete are also described combining with compliance of the essential requirements in the Council Directive (CPD89/106/EEC) relating to construction products.

A revised edition of the Standard Specification for Concrete Structures [Construction] was published by Japan Society of Civil Engineers in January 2000. It shows quantitative evaluation procedures for durability of concrete structures to aim at being a performance-based specification. The tunnel built by the ECL method, which applied SFRC, is only one in our country. Therefore, various data concerning the ECL method is less than that of the shield tunneling-method which uses segments. Then, to confirm strength of SFRC lining of the superlarge tunnel, bending experiments under axial loads were done with specimens which had the thickness of a real large size. As results, it was confirmed that SFRC lining had tough ductility, and had dispersion of cracks like reinforced concrete. Moreover, strengths of all SFRC lining were more than design resistance. It was clarified that the design by the proposed design and construction manual was safe enough.
