Main arguments on concrete pumping have been derived from complicated behavior of fresh concrete in pressurized pipe. Fluidity and conditions of blockade are also influenced by de-watering characteristics under pressure or remoldability of fresh concrete, and pumpability could only be evaluated as a total balance of these factors. Therefore, evaluation of material factors, improvement of pumpability or challenge to a difficult condition should be made based on observations of concrete in an actual condition or in a condition very close to it.

This paper reviews the past experimental research data and summarizes the findings on the effect of loading and strain rates on the behavior of reinforcing steel, concrete, bond between concrete and reinforcement, and reinforced concrete members. The nature of various loads acting on a structure is first discussed, and various dynamic testing machines are described. The experimental findings about the effect of strain and stress rates on the behavior of reinforced concrete materials, their bond, and reinforcing members are reviewed and discussed from the impact and earthquake response point of view. It is concluded that although the structure may be designed to rely on the increased resistance by the strain rate effect in very rare case of impact loadings, the earthquake resistant structure should not make use of such additional resistance because the benefit tends to disappear with structural damage.

It took 11 years to complete the Tohoku & Joetsu Shinkansen Line, because of oil pannic and another social surroundings. This paper reports about design considerations and construction methods of track system, foundation and concrete beam, considering the high speed running in the cold and heavy snow environments, constructing method of long span bridge, energy saved constructing method of middle span bridge, and rapid constructing method etc..

Concrete mixed bentonite (CBC) with a very flexible behavior of deformation has been researched and developed as the construction material for cutoff wall for a few years. In this report, the result of various tests conducted on“strength”,“deformation”,“permeability”,“durability”, etc., and of structural investigation on hardened concrete are arranged and compiled. As a result, various properties of CBC become clear and it has been confirmed that CBC was enough to use for cutoff wall

This report describes the outline of the concrete works at the construction of the No.3 and No.4 units of Takahama Nuclear Power Station, Kansai Electric Power Company. About 400000 m3 of concretes containing moderate heat cement, pulverized fuel ash and a naphthalen-based superplasticizer, were placed at the construction. In order to obtain sufficient quality of the structures, various tests for the quality control of the materials and the concrete were conducted. A new-type distributor was introduced to make it easy to place a large volume of concrete.
