The JSQC division of healthcare quality and safety was established in December 2005 with the aim of developing management techniques for quality and safety of healthcare and establishing a quality management system for healthcare. The scope of the division's activities is not limited to research, but also includes outreach to disseminate the results to society, education to develop human resources, and networking of people related to the quality and safety of healthcare.
The division is currently active in the management of three research groups, and a training course called the Basic Course on Quality Management of Healthcare. In this paper, we report on these activities in recent years.
Although all the research groups were temporarily suspended due to the impact of COVID-19, they have continued their research activities by utilizing the online system. In addition, the QMS-H research group held an information exchange meeting on COVID-19. In the basic course, e-learning has been offered, and more participants are taking the course than ever before.

I gave a lecture about “ Quality Assurance in Edo era ” at the QC Salon on June 21, 2021. During Edo era, many technologies and systems that had a great influence on the world, such as ukiyo-e, a full-color printing technology, and rice futures trading, were invented. These technologies and systems had world-class quality. I focused on matchlock guns, called Hinawa-ju, the certification system for excellent inns, kimono as a super-eco goods, and ukiyo-e to find out why they were kept high quality.

Daikin Information and Communications Technology College (DICT) is an in-house college that aims to develop digital human resources within the company, where competition for them among companies is intensifying. We have defined three types of human resources: business innovators, data scientists, and system architects in order to promote advanced digital transformation, and we are currently implementing a plan to develop 1,500 digital human resources company-wide by the end of FY2023.
DICT provides education for each level, from new employees to executives. In particular, the course for new employees features two years of education and practice of digital technology without being assigned to a department for two years. About three and a half years have passed since the opening of the college, and recognition both inside and outside the company has been steadily increasing. We hope to continue to lead the company-wide digital transformation through this initiative.

For the analysis of two-way contingency table with large number of rows and columns, correspondence analysis and clustering of rows and/or columns based on chi-square distance are frequently used in practice. In this short article, it is shown that the ratio of chi-square statistics of the original contingency table and a reduced table after clustering can be interpreted as the contribution ratio of the reduced table. In this note, the relationship between the chi-square statistic and correspondence analysis is effectively used.
