Although many studies have been reported on stainless fiber reinforced-castables,they were discussed on the assumption that fibers were homogeneously dispersed in the casted body because of small specimens. In case of actual casting,it is however not certain whether the fibers are homogeneously distrbuted.Distribution of fibers is thought to be very important to the durability of fiber rein forced-castable refractories. We attempted to know the distribution of fiber with nondestmctive transmitted X-ray observation and weighing the fiber amount in different parts of casted bodies. The following results are obtained. (1) Fibers are homogeneously right after the mixing. However the modes of distributlon change during casting using vibrator.Fibers are separated from mixture, oriented in some direction or segregated in casted bodies. The effects of water content and vibration time to the modes of distribution were detemined. (2) The modes of fiber distribution are influenced by viscosity of matrix in castable.
