Creep test by bending is generally preferable to that by compressing because larger stress can be
easily loaded on a test piece by bending than by compressing. Creep constitutive equation, however, is not easily
conducted from the creep data obtained by bending test. Therefore, result of bending creep test has not been
available as the premise for FEM analysis.
Here studied and reported is the method of reverse analysis to conduct the creep equation for alumina-graphite
materials from the creep data obtained by bending test.
First, elastic finite element model is employed to estimate stress and strain from load and displacement. Then
creep coefficients are determined preliminarily. Next, elastic creep finite element model is employed to correct the coefficients. The determined creep equation is applied to analysis of the bending test data and has shown
satisfactory agreement with the experiment results. Thus the methods and procedures prove effective.
