    In order to increase the durability of MgO-C brick in LD-Optimizing Refining Process (ORP) furnace,MgO-C brick was improved in resistance against corrosion and oxidation abrasion which were supposed to cause damages.  Purification of both magnesia clinker and graphite tumed out to greatly enhance the corrosion resistance of MgO-C brick.  Furthermore,resistance against oxidation abrasion was increased by the addition of SiC or spinel or both of them.  Corrosion resistance was also increased when both SiC and spinel were used.  MgO-C brick with both SiC and spinel was developed for ORP-furnace.  ln service,the MgO-C brick with improved oxidation abrasion resistance showed greater performance result than those with corrosion resistance,whne the MgO-C brick with both SiC and spinel was three times as durable as conventional MgO-C brick.
