Thermal characteristics of Alkaline Earth Silicate (AES) wool and Refractory Ceramic Fiber (RCF) were compared by heating. The linear shrinkage of AES wool was lower than that of RCF at normal service temperature for 24h. On the other hand, AES wool's shrinkage became extremely higher than RCF under the condition of overheat temperature. AES wool crystallized immediately over 1100℃, but the amount of formed cristobalite became constant within short time. On the other hand, RCF crystallized cristobalite and the amount increase continuously by heating over 1260℃, and the shrinkage has increased progressively. It was, therefore, concluded that AES wool crystallized easier than RCF, thus, necessary to pay attention for embrittlement phenomenon of AES wool especially for repair or removal after heated at kiln or furnace.
