Shichijo's reaction, which is highly positive in stomach cancer, will be useful as supplementary diagnostic method in reading gastrophotograph, especially in differentiation of stomach cancer from the related diseases. On this assumption, relation between gastrocamera pictures of various stomach diseases and Shichijo' s reaction was investigated, and some new findings were obtained.
1) Out of 57 cases, diagnosed as stomach cancer by gastrocamera study, 51 cases (89.51%) are considered to be possible positive definitely positive reaction and intermediate reaction in Shichijo' s reaction.
Of these 51 cases, 43 had definitely positive reaction and the others the intermediate. The high incidence of the possible positivity supports the concept that this reaction is very useful for making diagnosis of stomach cancer.
2) Out of 516 cases with stomach diseases other than cancer, 56 (10.9%) showed possible positive reaction, However, the definitely positive reaction was found only in 7 cases, and the majority showed the intermediate reaction.
3) Stomach cancers were divided into the early and the high infiltration group according to the grade of in filtration. and Shichijo's reaction was shown possible positive at equal rate in the both groups. In this way, the reaction was confirmed as excellent supplementary method for the diagnosis of early stomach cancer.
4) Benign stomach ulcer was classified into various stages, and Shichijo' s reaction in each was examined. The possible positivity rate was relatively high in the convalescent stage, On account of this, the author pointed out necessity to pay particular attention to the above fact in the diagnosis of stomach ulcer with cicatrical appearance.
5) Shichijo's reaction was performed with 49 cases of stomach ulcer, suspected of malignancy by gastrocamera picture but pathohistologically indicated to be benign, and 14 cases with malignant ulcer. All the former were negative, while all the latter showed the possible positive reaction. Shichijo' s reaction was thus found useful as supplementary method also in differetiating malignant from benign stomach ulcer by means of gastrocamera picture.
6) Malignant stomach ulcer was divided into the early and the highly infiltrated cancer according to the grade of infiltration, and Shichijo' s reaction was performed with the result it was possible positive nearly at equal rate in the both groups. It was therefore emphasized that the reaction was sufficiently useful for the diagnosis of early stomgch cancer.
7) Out of 324 cases of chronic gastritis, with whom Shichijo' s reaction was performed 44 (13.6%) showed the possible positive reaction. However, the definitely positive reaction was found only in 4 cases, and the majority showed the intermediate reaction. Therefore Shichijo's reaction was considered useful as supplementary method in differentiating stomach cancer from chronic gastritis by gastrocamera picture.
8) Gastrocamera pictures of chronic gastritis were analyzed, and Shichijo' s reaction in patients of this disease was investigated. And it was found that the possible positivity rate tended to be rather higher among those with atrophic gastritis, especially with high metaplasia. The author considers this worth to notice, since there are many reports which stress the presence of metaplasia in precancer state.
9) It is sometimes difficult to differentiate superficial and hyperplastic gastritis from stomach cancer so far as the gastrccamera is used as the diagnostic means. However, this difficulty can be largely eliminated by taking Shichijo' s reaction into account.
