Recent laboratory studies concerning the pathophysiology of spinal cord trauma has led to a marked heightening of interest in this problem in the United States as well as elaswhere in the world and I will attempt to summarize for your interest the newer avenues in both laboratory and clinical research and draw some tentative conclusions relative to the treatment of patients with damaged spinal cords.

Recent advances in refinements of instrumentation, in improvement of scanning technique and data processing, and in development of appropriate radioisotope preparations with a short half-life, have made the radioisotoiic studies of the brain a reliable diagnostic and investigative took whicl is indispensable in the field of neurosurgery.
The use of a gamma-ray scintillation camera and a short-lived radioisotope permits the dynamic study of an isotope bolus as it traverses the normal and pathologic focus in the brain. Vascular phases of the scintigrams are stored and replayed by the use of a video-tape system. Following this, the time-lapse scintiphotography and the use of a memory system make possible the digital assessment of the time course of regional radioactivity in multiple areas in the brain.
More recently, a gamma camera have been used for the purpose of blood flow and perfusion analysis of the brain, and these have often proved to be a useful adjunctive technique in the clinical as well as research studies in the selected cases.
The purpose of this paper is to summarize the recent experiences of radioisotopic studies with a gamma camera and a video-tape system, and to evaluate their clinical implications.

In recent years morphological study of pituitary adenomas has remarkably proceeded by the development of electron microscopic technic. Besides, a great amount of studies on pituitary hormones have been presented in the field of endocrinology. But there are still many unsolved problems on the correlation between morphological property and hormone secretion of each pituitary adenoma cell and there is much confusion in existence of secretory granules and endocrinological activity of chromophobe adenomas. In order to make clear the relationship between cell types and the functions of pituitary adenoma cells, the author investigated the hormone producing activity of them by means of cell culture with major emphasis on the chromophobe adenomas.

The cerebello-pontine angle (C-P angle) is the most common location for meningiomas in the posterior fossa9)12), and the posterior surface of the petrous bone is its most frequent site of dural attachment.2) Two thirds of the meningiomas of the posterior fossa arise at the porus acousticus or just medial to it.10 The tumor as it enlarges has a predilection for extension into the region of the tentorial notch, causing an upward bulging of the tentorium with rostral protrusion of the upper surface of the cerebellum through the tentorial opening.11) The ease with which large subtentorial tumors with rostro-ventral overgrowth can be approached through a temporal route rather than a suboccipital route5)6) led us to use this simple method of removing the large meningioma of the C-P angle through a large window of the tentorium, from above.

Chronic subdural hematoma is a common disease. Occasionally, however, it is so puzzling to make a diagnosis clearly and immediately, that the delay of the management may occur. So the purpose of this paper is to clarify the general picture of chronic subdural hematoma from a statistical analysis in 309 adult cases. Through this survey the role of trauma as the triggering factor is to be checked and the signs and symptoms will be summarized and divided into groups according to clinical features, which will make the diagnosis easy and useful to dissolve the pitfall. Pathophysiology and dynamics of the capsule of the hematoma are investigated in some cases, and the dysfunction of the liver is also inquired. Follow-up study was performed, which will contribute to the selection of the operative method.
