JOURNAL FREE ACCESS1. Fresh crush preparations of the liver of Oryzias latipes were made and examined by means of phase contrast microscopy.
2. The nuclei in fresh preparations look homogeneous except the nucleoli, but with elapse of time the network appear.
3. In fresh preparations, several vacuoles are sometimes visible within the nucleolus.
4. The clearest picture of mitpchondria is seen with the dark contrast medium: in fresh preparations they are filamentous, in the older preparations they swell, shorten themselves forming nods.
5. The mitochondria outside of cells look like short swollen rods or granules.
6. The Golgi apparatus is demonstrated and distinguished from mitochondria with the dark contrast low.

JOURNAL FREE ACCESS1. Fresh liver cells of Oryzias latipes, treated by eleven fixatives, were examined by means of the phase contrast microscopy.
2. The materials treated with Levi's, Champy's,10% formalin and Regaud's solution gave more similar pictures than the other to those of the fresh material, but not quite the same.
3. Acetic acid containing fixatives, i. e. Bouin's, Carnoy's and Flemming's stronger solutions,. were able to make the network of nucleus clearly visible, which was invisible in the fresh material.
4. The best preserving fixatives for Golgi apparatus are Levi's and Champy's solutions.

JOURNAL FREE ACCESS1. The influence of starvation of seven days, nineteen days and thirty days, upon the mitochondria, the “Special Granules” and ribonucleic acid in the liver cells of Oryzias latipes has been observed.
2. The longer the duration of starvation, the smaller the size of liver cells; the shape, the amount and the localization of mitochondria showed no change.
3. The " Special Granules " decrease markedly in parallel with the duration of starvation.
4. Ribonucleic acid decreases in parallel with the duration of starvation.
5. Fat globules within the cytoplasm of liver cells diminish in parallel with the duration of starvation.

JOURNAL FREE ACCESS1. The Golgi apparatus of liver cells of Oryzias latipes was observed after a period of starvation of seven days, twenty days a nd thirty days.
2. As the result of starvation longer than twenty days the Golgi apparatus tends to get nearer to the bile capillary pole.
3. The total amount of the Golgi apparatus show s neither decrease nor increase throughout all stages of the experiment.

JOURNAL FREE ACCESS1. The change of polysaccharide and protein of developing eggcells of an osseous fish (Leiognathus argenteum) was observed cytochemically.
2. Zona pellucida contains much polysaccharide, and has no relation to the progress of the stage of development.
3. A mature egg-cell contains glycogen within cytoplasm.
4. The protein content is extremely high in nucleoli, and high also in yolk granules.
5. In an early stage of development yolk granules contain a lot of low-moleculed polysaccharides; and in an advanced stage they contain at the same time highly polymerized polysaccharides and much protein.View full abstractDownload PDF (1376K) -
