0.5 ml of 2.5 % alloxan solution was injected intraperitoneally to a mouse, and the cytochemical examinations of liver with the passage of time thereafter showed the following results:
    1) Following the injection of alloxan, alkaline phosphatase shows generally a temporary decrease in activity, and then it recovers. The decrease in activity is particulary distinct in the central region of the hepatic lobule. The activity of the interlobular bile duct is intense, but no difference of activity is observable between each group. The stellate cell, even in the region neighbouring the central vein also, gives so intense an activity that the presence of the nucleus is difficult to recognize, being covered by the deep coloration of the cytoplasm, and the activity is reduced slightly in the one hour, in the two hours and in the four hours groups.
    2) The acid phosphatase activity increases with the passage of time. The intensification is remarkable particularly in the nuclei of the hepatic cell and of the stellate cell. In the six hours group, the activity indicates the time intensity as that of the control group.
    3) The PAS reaction decreases generally the stainability with time after the injection. The stellate cell shows an intensification of the stainability following the injection, but there is no remarkable differen ce of intensity observable between the groups, sacrificed in different time lengths after the injection. A cytochemical investigation on the mouse liver after alloxan injection 363
    4) The stainability produced by the mercuric chloride-BPB metho d increases with the passage of time after the injection.

    1. The seemingly healthy gingival tissues from 10 human cases of sudden accidental death were studied in tissue sections.
    2. In the subepithelial connective tissue of the gingiva which otherwise has to be considered normal, plasma cell aggregations, though highly variable in size, number and density, were found to be constantly present.
    3. In addition to plasma cells, lymphocytes were also found scattered singly in variable numbers in both the conncctive tissue and the epithelium.
    4. There was a tendency that the greater the degree of plasma cell infiltrtaion was, the more numerous were the lymphocytes which were found in the connective tissue and epithelium.

The rudiment of the eccrine sweat gland in the auricula is situated in the basement layer of the stratum germinatv um of the corium. There are groups of epithelial cells in the rudiment forming portion. In the sixth fetal month, the rudiment becomes papillary or clavate, infiltrates into the corium forming a cord of the epithelial cells, and further builds the cord region (which becomes the extretory duct later). The end of the cord region winds and forms a hookshaped rudiment. In the seventh fetal month, the cord region begins to courve and forms a small slit-like cavity, which is covered by two layers of cells. In the winding part of the swollen end there is the transitional portion. The cells of the external layer of the transitional portion becomes the external cells of the excretory duct. The somewhat advanced development of the myoepithelial cells is observed. The excretory duct has increased its length and shows more complicated winding, and the terminal portion of the excretory duct forms a glomerule, a part of the glandular body. In the eighth an d ninth months, the glandular cells are differentiated into the superfici al and the basal cells. The size of the glandular cavity is sma ller than in the adult, and the glandular cells are arranged in a somewh at irregular row. In the ninth fetal month, the stainability with iron hematoxylin in the luminal surface is demonstrated, but the existen ce of secretion vacules, secretion processes or mitochondria is doubtful. A weak stainability of glycogen is recognized in the external layer of the excretory duct and in the basal cells of the glandular body late r than the seventh fetal month. Alkaline phosphatase shows its activ ity mainly in the nucleus. The activity is stronger in the glandular body than in the excretory duct, and it increases in intensity in the surf ace of the glandular cavity with the fetal age. The stainability of ribonucleic acid is stronger in the superficial cells than in the basal c ells. In general, the stainability is stronger in the excretory duct than in the glandular body. The protein stainability has the same strength in both the excretory duct and the glandular body, and it in creases with the fetal age.
The authors express the most cordial thanks to Prof. T. Tanguchi for his invaluable criticism of the manuscript. This study was scheduled by Instructor M. Ihnuma.
