This paper describes the developments in the latest version of the BEST. The various types of weather data sets are available for simulations. Users can use the BEST for design thermal peak load calculations and integrated simulations such as plumbing systems utilizing rain water and co-generation systems with desiccant dehumidification. The idea of template system is introduced in building MEP system models and the database of HVAC equipment's properties is enriched for simulation use.

XML is excellent data form in the visibility, the WEB use, and the data reusability. Therefore, in the BEST development, we adopt XML form as input data. And also, we revised XML vocabulary to make many people can correctly interpret the meaning of data for wide use of BEST in the future. In addition, we understood that there were a lot of advantages for the user, the manager and the cost performance if BEST became the simulation software of the WEB application.

This paper presents the simulation of simple input approach by using MEP system templates. We assembled some MEP system templates such as zones-templates, air conditioner templates, heat-source templates, ventilation templates, elevator template, and customized the master modules tree of BEST P. Only one click on a MEP system template menu, in the master modules tree area of BEST P tool, we can run the BEST P.

It is essential to provide the use interface (UI) of BEST that is user-friendly to users and developers. Concerning to the professional version of BEST, it was intended to equip the primary function of UI and to promote the participation of the third parties who develop the UI as their business. This paper describes some projects related to the data structure and the tasks of the energy simulation and proposes the structure of BEST. It consists of the interface, the adaptor and the bridge that transfer the simulation data including the building, engine, building equipments, etc. and have the specification of the data to the third parties.

Two kinds of projects to develop weather data for building energy calculation are introduced in this report. The one is compilation of the EA weather data for 7 years from 2001 to 2007 by using past weather data observed by Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA). The other is development of new future weather data for building energy prediction. The future weather data from 2031 to 2050 and from 2081 to 2100 have been made experimentally by combining the past EA weather data with future variation of climatic data calculated from Global Warming Projection of the JMA.

This paper presents an idea of assuming the equipment capacities during warm up or pull down hours for design thermal peak load simulations. The validity of design peak loads under the EA design weather conditions in an office building are confirmed by annual simulations. The effects of warm up and pull down hours on the space thermal environment in a residential house are investigated.

This paper describes parametric studies of thermal peak load and indoor thermal environment calculated with new design weather data. It has two points of view; one is effect of the weather data, which has two types of heating design data and three of cooling design data. The other is influence of nine factors which impact on the thermal peak load and environment. These factors are classified as uncertain conditions or using conditions, architectural design elements, and operating conditions of air conditioning. As a conclusion, the impacts of the weather data and the factors are presented.

This paper presents simulation method of daylighting and solar shading for estimating energy-saving effect by day-light utilization. It is enabled to estimate energy-saving effect of daylight utilization by coupling calculation of daylight illuminance and artificial lighting output. In this paper, we compare HVAC simulation programs in terms of annual energy consumption, and calculated details of VAV air handling unit. Annual calculation gives rough agreement among those tools. In detailed calculation for VAV air handling unit sub-system, coil heat extractions are roughly in accordance for HASP/ACSS and BEST, but water flow rates and the water temperature difference are considerably different due to the coil model and the control algorithms employed.

In this part, progresses of characterization of heat source appliances and packaged air conditioners are reported. Characterization frame for each category are defined for this work. Chacteristics of heat-pump chillers, high-efficiency centrifugal chillers, and steam-heated absorption chillers are indicated as examples of heat source appliances. The models of packaged air conditioners are modified by refrecting the intermediate load performance. And the variety of models is expanded by addition of ice thermal storage type, GHP with electric generation, and KHP. A continuous characterization of the rest of appliances would fill up the frames and expand the versatility of the BEST program.

In this paper, we studied on the simple test method of trap performance using simple testing devises. This method uses single sine waves for easy operation and better versatility. We experimented on four tests using single sine waves (the free-vibration-test, the response-magnification-test, the seal-break-test, and the √<2>-times-natural-frequency-test) and compared the results and the operabilites of these tests.

This paper deals with the natural frequency and the anti-pressure performance of the drainage trap according to the results of experiments using transparent model traps having various F which means the ratio of leg's cross sectional areas; F=(outlet leg's area)/(inlet leg's area). The experimental range of F is 0.501.67 (0.50, 0.56, 0.63, 0.71, 0.83, 1.00, 1.25, 1.67). The main conclusion is that the natural frequency and the anti-pressure performance is very different from the results of previous studies when F is smaller than 0.71.

Based on a drainage system which is normally used for three-storey single-family housing, this study proposes a drainage vent system which has been developed with an "air admittance valve function" to improve drainage capacity and drainage system constructability combined with an "airflow resistance relaxation function" to reduce airflow resistance when drainage water flows down the drainage stack. The study also compares the drainage capacity of the proposed drainage vent system, when some drainage load is actually applied, with the drainage capacity of conventional vent-type and non-vent-type drainage systems.

In this study, with the purpose to improve the ability for drainage, the possibility of the drainage performance forecast was examined by proposing the network model to request the jurisdiction pressure that became the judgment index of the drain ability when this vent valve was set up in the horizon-tal fixture branch in two branches. Moreover, it is all-out to generate an excessive, positive pressure by excessive ventilation because the number of installation places increases. Therefore, the ventilation resistance in the housedrain increased when the ventilation flowing quantity increased, and the prediction method of the increasing positive pressure value was examined in the low layer floor when the horizontal bend was set up in housedrain of the drainage stack system.

To know how washbasin trap's water seal are affected by self-siphonage, we discharged water by filled flow and observed the state of water seal. The ultra low flow water closets have become popular for several years, and today it is not required only water-saving but also quietness. Therefore, it has been developed that the ultra low flow water closet with a vacuum-aspiration drainage mechanism. Then we examined the performance influences on drainage capacities of drainage stack system. In order to realize a stainless steel piping system which has high durability, two evaluations are going to be done. Firstly, it is an evaluation of the noncorrosive ability, deterioration investigation of valves and fittings. And secondary, it is an evaluation of Life Cycle Assessment that includes costs and carbon dioxide. Moreover a guideline of the design, construction, and maintenance will be published based on the results. In this paper, authors reported the results through a questionnaire survey for evaluations of the noncorrosive ability, deterioration of valves and fittings for clarifying problems of the system.

Metallic piping systems corrode with the corrosion factors such as the chloride ion, the dissolved oxygen, and the residual chloride, and causes the function deterioration as the plumbing facilities. A stainless steel pipe is remarkable as materials for building construction that bear a part of the stock type society that can be reproduced in long life, but its durability has not been studied enough. In this report, the stainless steel lift riser used for receiving tank constructed in 1982 was collected in 2003, and the durability was investigated. As a result, the corrosion resistance of a stainless steel pipe (passage of 22 years) was excellent, and a stainless steel pipe can be prolonged use as long as the same environment is maintained.

In the second report, the stainless steel lift riser used for receiving tank constructed in 1982 was collected in 2003,and it reported on the result of the survey of the durability. In this report, durability of the stainless piping systems that had been constructed in around 1975 was studied, in addition, the water quality of the public waterworks throughout the country was verified. After survey, the stainless steel pipes collected (9-27 years) show good durability. The corrosion of the stainless pipe will not occur as long as these water quality were maintained, and it clears that to maintain the initial surface roughness.

By this report, a result investigated used synthetic rubber about the factor that let confirmation and deterioration of the deterioration situation go as a sample is shown. 1) The durability of synthetic rubber used for water supply system was around from ten to twenty years. If manufacturer improvers the combination of the synthetic rubber that this, it is hoped that durability becomes longer. 2) The deterioration of synthetic rubber used for a hot water supply system is intense. 3) The antioxidants included in synthetic rubber decrease remarkably in early period of beginning to use. 4) In the synthetic rubber which dose not contact with water, the antioxidants do not decrease.

We carried out the investigation on deterioration of stainless steel piping by the passing of 8 years. Though Stainless steel pipes could expect high durability, it could confirm that the intentional maintenance was necessary for housing type fittings and valves. The first water leak was generated in the screw in the branch pipe later about three years the use beginning in galvanized steel pipe for chilled and hot water. Afterwards, the water leak happened in succession almost in branch pipes. Corrosion pits of bowl type were caused by generating the tubercles in piping in some places under that, and it caused the water leak. It is guessed the local corrosion by the electric potential reversal of the zinc and the carbon steel from the electric potential comparison with a corrosion part and peripheral health part (zinc plating layer remaining part).In this report, the state of corrosion of piping and the measurement of the electric potential are shown by the cut sample pipes, and the water analyses results are shown.

Energy efficiency improvements of renovated district heating and cooling (DHC) plants were evaluated by simulation. In this paper, the simulation model for the original plant is developed based on the equipment specifications of the original plant. Accuracy of this model is examined based on the comparison to the measurement energy consumption data of original plant. From the result of this comparison, few parameters related to the chiller operational control were modified and chiller efficiency change due to the degradation was considered.
