The humidity of Okinawa is high all the year around. In order to reduce the energy required for dehumidification, the Desiccant Air-Conditioning system and the Large Temperature Differential Supply System of chilled water were introduced. This paper reports energy-saving effect of these systems. As a result, energy conservation of 41 % a year was enabled by a combination of these systems. These were verified with measured value and simulation by LCEM.

The objective of this study is the development of residential desiccant air-conditioning and the estimation of the proposed system by experiment and numerical analysis calculation. The performance of air-conditioning system is affected by outdoor conditions, insulation, air-flow, quantity of desiccant, quantity of thermal storage material and mass-flow and temperature of refrigerant. Considering these all performance-parameters by experimental have limitation in point of time and cost, for convenient and prompt performance evaluation, the development of numerical analysis model is necessary. In this study, a numerical analysis model for evaluation performance is proposed. Through comparison the results of measurement and calculation and sensitivity analysis with parameters, feasibility study is conducted.

Generally, the multi-split-type A/C systems are designed based on managing temperature and humidity including outdoor air, which result in low evaporation temperature to manage humidity. We can expect large improvement on efficiency using our new high efficient desiccant system combined with high temperature evaporation type multi-type A/C by managing temperature and humidity separately. In this research, we establish a simulation tool to evaluate the energy-saving performance of this system. In this paper, we report the outline of the simulation tool and the result of performance calculation on assumed the general office building model.

This report examines the reduction in energy consumed by air-conditioning systems in server rooms by optimizing the outlet condition. We used control logic to search for the best outlet condition that creates a good thermal environment in the room, and calculated the energy saved under this condition. The results showed that reducing the wind velocity increased the energy conservation effect.

The clean room air-conditioning system should adjust the PID parameter of the temperature and humidity. Then, to calculate the behavior of the temperature and the humidity when the PID parameter was changed, a control simulation model composed of the PID control model, the air-handling unit model, and the building model was made. Using attribute effectively will raise efficiency of production. So attribute definition is required in each domain. In air-conditioning and plumbing domain, already there are some attribute definitions. But they are not related together. So there is restriction in use. In last fiscal year, a new attribute definition 'Air-Conditioning and Plumbing Attribute Set' is released. This is useful to relate other attribute definitions. So using attribute definitions is improved.

We developed a calculation program for heating and cooling energy in residential house. By using this program, energy consumption of the heating and cooling appliances (room air conditioner, hot water heating system, FF* heating system, central heat pump HVAC system and electrical floor heating system) can be calculated every hour based on the input data such as the specification of the appliances, outdoor condition and pre-calculated heating and cooling load. This paper represents the overview of the program interface, necessary input data and output data, and also shows the calculated primary energy of various appliances as the example of the results. A reusable heat-load calculating class library was developed. Immutable interfaces for "Reference Objects" were defined not to allow modifying "Reference Objects" by client programs. The results of experimental study using of Kogakuin Twin Chamber (KTC) in the summer of 2008 and consideration of room thermal environment and heat load are described. The results of measurement showed that the distribution of room air temperatures is not uniform as the room means air temperature and the return air temperature do not agree. In addition the supply air flow rate does not agree with the return air flow rate. From these results, the room heat load simulation model considering air flow to the ceiling plenum and the effect of room air temperature distribution is necessary.

The results of experimental study of Kogakuin Twin Chamber (KTC) in 2008 summer for the validation of a simulation program EESLISM are described. A series of experiment with the test conditions of VAV and CAV controlled intermittent cooling with fresh air introduction was carried out. As the return air temperature does not agree room air temperature due to the air temperature distribution, the room heat load simulation model considering the bypass air flow late is proposed. The simulated results using this model showed good agreement with the measured data in the heat loads and the room thermal environment.

Transient heat response on flow field can be calculated through computation of convolution by using response factors. The calculation method is based on the fact that we can regard steady state flow field as a linear system. Using this fact, we develop the method to integrate the three dimensional transient heat transfer calculated by CFD analysis into air-conditioning load calculation. Since we began to soil temperature have measured the circumference of an underground substation, 20 years passed. First, we report change for every year of a surrounding soil temperature. Subsequently, we report it by the quantity of the heat emitted from the transformer, and ventilation. We checked that a surrounding soil temperature was going to convergence. A summer and winter had much heat exhaust and it turns out that mid-term is few. By the load ratio by time, it checked increasing in the daytime.

Air quality, thermal environment, and several environmental controls were investigated in elementary school classrooms equipped with air-conditioning systems for cooling and heating. The school building consists of an one-side- corridor type and a middle-corridor-type. Main results were as follows: 1) When cooling systems were operated, CO_2 concentration was higher than that when heating systems were controlled. 2) The ventilation volume at one-side corridor was two times of the one at the middle corridor. 3) Adaptation to surrounding environments was recognized from pupils' evaluations.

Previous paper presented field measurement on indoor thermal condition in metropolitan high schools. In this paper, indoor temperature, humidity and heat emission from roofs to urban atmosphere are discussed on the basis of measured data. Indoor humidity was low while heating system was operated. In commercial kitchens, problems due to indoor air quality often appear and may reduce work productivity. Especially odor may cause serious IAQ problems and also makes some trouble with neighbors. However, odor problems have been studied only by experimental method and detail of distribution of odor index has not been examined. In this study, generation rate of odor material was measured in an experimental room. Then CFD simulation was conducted with the measured generation rate, and the concentration for predominant substance of odor was simulated to obtain the predicted odor index distribution.

We evaluate a risk of a bad smell exposition, and it is important that we take measures. We measured a bad smell level to be able to put with two methods developed in this study in factory workshops, and performed risk assessment. We did workshop places of a higher exposition risk with priority of improvement, improved ventilation facilities and introduction of an exhaust, sealing up of bad smell outbreak source or a change of work methods. And risk reduction of a bad smell exposition was enabled by these.

In order to establish the comfortable indoor odor environment, measurements of the indoor odor concentration were carried out in the dwelling unit of new constructed multi-family residence. In the summertime measurement, the odor index before operating the mechanical ventilation system was around 20. After operating the mechanical ventilation /system, the order index decreased to around 10 in one to several weeks. When the TVOC concentration is in the range of over 2000μg/m3, the odor concentration tends to correlate with the TVOC concentration. The odor concentrations in summertime and wintertime measurement showed little difference, although the TVOC concentrations in wintertime decrease to half compared to the summertime.

The odorous compounds emitted from interior building materials are considered to be the major cause of the odor in the dwelling unit of new constructed multi-family residence. The GC/MS olfactometer was used for analysis of these materials. In order to specify test materials, 20 samples of 15 types were analyzed by the electronic nose and they were divided into 3 groups according to the odor similarity. The test materials measured high value of the odor index were selected from each group. Identification results in failure because the odor from test materials is feeble.

The present study aims at determining the emission rates of aldehydes and VOCs in the expired air of human subjects before and after intake of an alcoholic beverage. A male subject was measured for the expiration of target substances following the intake of 500mL of beer. We clarified the emission rates of aldehydes and VOCs, and the change of emission rates following the intake beer. The results revealed that acetaldehyde emission rates decreased from 239 μg/h to 105 μg/h over 180min after alcohol intake. Ethanol emission rates decreased from 15897 μg/h to 10386 μg/h over 180min after alcohol intake. Future problems in this study, we must examine bad smell counter measures technique and products at the time of the drinking.

The restroom space is considered to be one of the three major sources of odor in the household. Toilet units with an air cleaning device are currently being marketed to measure the extent of odor occurring in the restroom space. In the present study, we elucidate the capability of this device in removing odorous material based on the actual emission rate of ammonia, methyl mercaptan and volatile organic compounds (VOC) emitted by the feces using an environmental test-chamber. The results showed that the emission rates of ammonia from urine ranged from 207 to 798 [mg/h ・mL] and that for methyl mercaptan ranged from 0.15 to 1.82 [mg/h ・mL]. Furthermore, we derived the actual VOC composition as well as the emission rate from urine using an environmental test-chamber.

Indoor air pollution by odorants is an important problem relating to the comfort for occupants. This problem is particularly important in nursing homes for the aged. At the present time, air fresheners are commonly used as a countermeasure to reduce the concentration of airborne ammonia and methyl-mercaptane, but there has been no quantitative research related to their odorant removal performance. In previous research, the formaldehyde and VOCs removal performance of air fresheners was determined in an environmental chamber. The present study aimed at comparing the ammonia removal performance of air (fresheners using a "chamber method" and a "bag method".

In the process of Painting, it is requested to make clean factory to improve the quality of painting. In a prior measurement result, it turned out that the inflow of the floating dust by the temperatures fluctuate ventilation was a cause of contamination. So, we developed the air curtain for which the wind amount balance was effective to improve air quality in the process of painting. We have extracted the effective air curtain system by a prior analysis by CFD. The system of performance introduced into the real line was obtained the separating and removal effect of 80%.

The sequential and automatical VOC sampling and analysis method is developed for outgas generated from building materials in clean room and sick building. Electromagnetic valve was installed in front of the suction pump of the portable gas chromatograph(PGC) developed by the authors. This device can grasp elapsed changes of outgas from plural building materials plural in turn. 2 types of fire-resistant paints for steel frame are examined sequentially and automatically for 3 weeks. It showed that detected outgases are derived from solvent, for example ethylbenzene, m-, p-xylene and o-xylene. Fluctuations in outgas is approxi-mated to the double exponential function model better than the simple exponential function model. By using this method, long time span outgas decay can be elapsed much easier, compared with conventional Tenax-GC/MS method.

A passive sampler was constructed and evaluated for determining nicotine, 3-ethenyl pyridine and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) such as ethyl benzene and xylene in environmental tobacco smoke(ETS). ETS was collected on an adsorption disk, that is a glass fiber filter coated with XAD-4/PDMS A membrane filter was employed as a wind screen. Comparing the results obtained by active method, sampling rates for chemicals were determined. They were 38.0 ml/min for nicotine, 40.0 ml/min for 3-ethenyl pyridine 38.7 ml/min for ethyl benzene, 40.5 ml/min for p-xylene. However, our passive sampler was not satisfactory for benzene and toluene.

Unvented combustion appliances discharge various contaminants indoors. In earlier studies concentration of CO, NO_x hydrocarbosn, aldehydes, and VOCs discharged from each of unvented combustion appliances was measured in a large scale chamber. The present study investigated the discharge of these substances and ammonia in a residential environment by performing the survey in residence.The results showed that aldehydes concentration of the unvented combustion appliances are in the range of 1.64 to 30.1 [μg/m^3], and a TVOC concentration maximum of 505[μg/m^3]The serious indoor air pollution is caused by use of the unvented combustion appliance.

The most suitable experiment condition of the loading factor (L) and the supply HCHO concentration (Cs) for durability of absorptive building materials reducing indoor VOCs concentration was discussed. The desiccator method proposed by the authors was adopted. Considering from viewpoint of shortening the experimental period, L of 1.0m^2/m^3 and Cs of 20mg/m^3 is advisable because the absorption capacity per unit surface area is almost equal under the various experiment conditions.

We examined the numerical simulation of air ion supplied for diselectrification in a clean room for flat-panel display and film manufacturing processes. We newly have built in the equation of the ion transport the fluid analysis software. As a result, simulation of ion distribution became possible. About decrement of the ion density in the duct transportation, we compared the measurement result with a simulation result. The decrement of the ion density in the simulation result accorded with an experiment result well.

The preparation process of the specimen using the glass plate has been established in JIS A 1902-2 for the measurement of VOCs emission rates from adhesive. Self-imposed Self-imposed restraint for 4VOCs began in April, 2008. In the previous study, the measurement method by using calcium silicate plates had been developed as the method considering the actual construction conditions for the measurement of VOCs emission rates from adhesives. Until last year, emission rates had been measured for only toluene. while in this study, xylene, ethylbenzene and their mixtures were measured. As the results, a difference occurred in the effective diffusion coefficient by a combination of VOCs.

The purpose of this study is to reveal incidence of load ratio and energy efficiency of a room air conditioner installed at a room in a high insulated residential house and to discuss about relationship between them. To do this, We did a measurement on interior thermal environment of a room in hight an insulated apartment house and energy input/output of two room air conditioner, the one was chosen by floor area and the other was chosen by a result of heating/cooling load calculation, during summer season in 2009 at Yokohama. The result shows that the incidence of load ratio of an air conditioner based on floor was high at low ratio and COP for it was higher than 3.8 even in continuous cooling.

Recently, a lot of measuring instruments have come to be installed in some buildings to analyze the driving of air conditioning equipments. For example, in the case of a building with EHP system, meters of electric power consumption are installed for outside room machine of each EHP. But in the case of a building with GHP system, as the setting cost of gas meter is expensive, the measuring of gas consumption for each GHP is very rare. It is reported that we present some gas measurement methods for GHP, and evaluate them.

There is no guideline similar to refrigerant-gas 'R22' in refrigerant-gas 'R410A' about limit concentration in the room. And also, it is dangerous when refrigerant is leaked in a hotel room because the room volume is small. Then, we assumed that refrigerant-gas 'R410A' leaked in a hotel room, and simulated the refrigerant concentration. As the input condition for the simulation, the leak amount was uncertain. Therefore, we evaluated the leak amount by experiment.

Leak amount of refrigerant-gas was modeled using the result of experiment described in part 1, and time dependent change of gas concentration in a room was studied. Leak amount became largest, when the system was running in heating condition. The leakage became larger when refrigerant-gas was leaked as liquid. Finally, three dimensional distribution of leaked gas concentration in a room was simulated using the CFD technique. Distribution of leaked gas concentration when air-conditioning has been running was much different from when it has not been running.

This paper aims to study the convective heat transfer behaviour of aqueous suspensions of nano-diamond particles flowing through a horizontal tube heated under constant heat flux condition. Consideration is given to the effects of particle concentration and Reynolds number on heat transfer enhancement. It is found that (i) significant enhancement of heat transfer performance due to suspension of nano-diamond particles in the circular tube flow is observed in comparison with pure water as the working fluid, and (ii) substantial amplification of heat transfer performance is not attributed purely to the enhancement of thermal conductivity due to suspension of nano-diamond particles.

This report focuses on the section modulus of TDC duct's flange. We reported the prediction of limited pressure in air ducts last year. However, the section modulus of the prediction was calculated from the Mange of simple figure. The practical section moduli are necessary to construct the prediction of high accuracy. Therefore, we confirmed the section modulus of TDC duct's flange by the bending test. The value from the experiment was higher than the calculated value.
