In the knockdown production systems (KDPS), the transportation lead time to procure the component parts becomes much longer than the production lead time, and it affects the variation of transported inventory quantity. In this paper, considering the KDPS as a three-stage production, inventory and transportation system, we formulate the pull type ordering model in consideration of the emergency procurement, and propose how to design the adequate safety stock of transported component parts which assures the reliability of the final assembly process as economical by as possible.

The new concept of DSS (actDSS) has been introduced based on the soft systems methodology. In this paper, we formulate four components of the system and clarify each function in actDSS. Furthermore, we illustrate a specialized DSS by which we can solve a lot sizing problem in order to clarify the meaning of the formulation.

GT lines are classified as those in which all moves are of either an in-sequence or a by-passing type and those which contain backward movements. The former group is referred to as GT flow-lines, and a method of the group formation is discussed in this paper. First, we consider the problem of finding such a parts is given the maximal total weight that can be fabricated in a GT flow-line when each part is furnished with a weight. Next, this problem is formulated as a set covering problem, that is, a special type of 0-1 integer programming problem. We then propose a row generation method to determine the optimum solution of the set covering problem. Finally, its effectiveness is proved by computational experience.

Fuzzy regression analysis based on similarity relations is formulated, by which the number of staff in local government is discussed. In order to consider Changwon City in Korea, the degree of similarity with which each city is similar to Changwon is assigned to each city. Fuzzy regression model is obtained so as to fit to cities that have similarity to Changwon to some extent. The degree of similarity is transferred to the level of estimated fuzzy numbers and cities with strong similarity are weighed in data analysis. The reason why we employ fuzzy regression analysis is that there is fuzziness in the model of the number of staff in local government because the jobs are office work and service to citizen. Since the model of the number of staff is obtained as the fuzzy linear system, the estimated value is also a fuzzy number. From the obtaind results, it is concluded that the number of real staff in Changwon would be more or less larger than the estimated one.

Multi-stage optimal lot-sizing problems are extremely intractable and are classified as the hard-problem to slove. This paper discusses about a two-echelon purchasing/production system which is formulated by the use of EOQ and EPQ techniques taking factors of decay and failure into consideration. By the aid of the techniques of the first and the second derivatives. EOQ could be expressed by means of EPQ. It is possible to derive the cost reduction in the purchasing/production system. Furthermore, this system was applied in a DPE shop and the total varying cost was reduced by 19.2% as a result of numerical experiments.

After changing the working posture of female workers from chair sitting to standing, the investigation of 11 female workers was carried out by the "Investigation into self-conscious symptoms." As a result, by the change of working posture, the complaint of self-conscious fatigue increased immediately, but in the course of time, it decreased rapidly, and it was presumed that between 7 weeks to 10 weeks, the rate of the complaint of self-conscious fatigue would be stabilized. From the rate of the daily change and the rate of the weekly change, the accumulation of fatigue was little except the beginning of the change of posture.

A set of psychological experiments were carried out to investigate the membership functions of the eight kinds of linguistic labels assigned to pure tone stimuli. The stimuli, ranging from 100 Hz to 9051 Hz, were pre-recorded and presented by a PCM Recorder-Amplifier-Loudspeaker System. A pre-printed response sheet was given to each subject for judging the level of linguistic labels. The membership functions obtained are fitted to those predicted by the fuzzy models. As a result, it was revealed that a linguistic meaning of "or" can be interpreted as a fuzzy logical exclusive, "OR" operation with respect to a uni-dimensional scale.

This paper clarifies the conditions of lot sizes for multiple items of products cyclically produced on a single machine in order to minimize start-lag. Demand rate for each product is assumed to vary a finite number of times on a planning horizon, and these items are assumed to be collectively transported to the places of consumption of each product as a single transportation lot at the end of each production cycle. The problem is formulated on a cumulative domain, whose horizontal axis represents time and vertical axis refers to the cumulative amount of products. Through geometric analysis on that domain, fundamental properties such as reduction of start-lags along with the decrease in production lot sizes are clarified. Furthermore, using the relationship between the changes of the stepped transportation line and the value of stop-lag, a procedure to obtain optimal production lot sizes is presented.
