In the previous paper, we investigated the effect of learning ordering in multi-item inventory model. It is possible that the arrival items are damaged during transportation and the quality of ordered lot is deteriorating. In this paper, both effects of learning ordering and quality are studied based on the multi-item inventory model under two ordering policies. The two ordering policies are the lump and individual orderings. Optimal ordering quantities, ordering frequencies and inspection rates are derived under the two ordering policies. A comparison of the two ordering policies is also discussed from the economic viewpoint.

Wald gave an approximate formula for the operating characteristic of a sequential test. Furukawa, Ohta and Kase have recently presented a design procedure for the sequential sampling inspection with given producer's and consumer's risks based on the minimal lattice paths (MLP). Their procedure is highly accurate for calculating the operating characteristic and the average total inspection of the sequential sampling plan by attributes. In this paper, we propose a new rectifying sequential inspection plan, by applying the design procedure based on the MLP to rectifying sampling plans by attributes, which has an advantage from viewpoint of the average total inspection.

We consider the following problem. There are m different items. For each, deterministic stationary demand is expected. By switching machine setting, each item is produced without shortage so as to minimize (discounted) inventory holding cost, but incur thereby a switching cost each time we modify the setting. This paper presents a computational theory generating the optimal lot size schedule of this problem by quasi-variational inequalities. Namely, (i) formulating the problem into dynamic programming and deriving a system of quasi-variational inequalities, we characterise the solution of the optimal cost function as the maximum element of a set of functions defined appropriately. (ii) We derive the optimal policy, which is stationary and indexpolicy.

This paper presents a procedure of numerically solving a Multi-Item Single Machine Lot Size Scheduling Problem by Quasi-Variational Inequality Theory. First, in order to obtain the optimal cost function (u^0(x), …, u^m(x)) characterized as the maximum element of a set of functions defined appropriately, approximated expressions of the optimality condition are derived. Second, we propose an algorithm that enables us to solve u^d(x) numerically as the fixed point of a certain operator. Third, we present an accelerated algorithm which decreases monotonously and converges in a finite number of iterations. Finally, we illustrate computational aspects generating lot size schedules by the QVI approach.

This paper deals with the fixed order interval withdrawal Kanban system under the variable demand rates. Firstly, two methods, the adaptable capacity of containers and the adaptable number of Kanbans, are introduced. Secondly, the algorithm to determine the optimal operation planning for the two methods is presented. Thirdly, the solutions by the two methods for various numerical examples are compared. The results indicate that the total operation cost under the adaptable capacity containers is lower than the total operation cost under the adaptable number of Kanbans for the small variation of hourly demand.

A multiobjective scheduling method using complex random sampling (CRSS) proposed in part I can be applied to various kinds of multiobjective scheduling. The effectiveness of this method has been shown only in single-machine bicriterion scheduling problems where another effective method exists to find a set of nondominated schedules. It is hard to show the method is effective for any other multiobjective scheduling problems in general. This paper applies this method to a three-objective, 2-machine, flow-shop scheduling problem for making it clear through experimental simulations that the method efficiently generates an approximate set of nondominated schedules with high accuracy in this case.

Parallel machine scheduling methods are proposed for minimizing the total cost consisting of flowtime cost and asymmetric penalty cost of earliness-tardiness, when all jobs have a large common due date and an identical cost function. Dominance conditions necessary for an optimal schedule are derived to this scheduling problem. Five heuristic algorithms are proposed to allocate jobs to each machine and to find an optimal schedule of the jobs assigned to the individual machine. Numerical examples are demonstrated to show the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

This paper deals with the decision support systems for production planing from the view point of the DSS concept incorporating major functions : physical performance analysis and choice analysis. The first is to make clear, through the physical performance analysis, the impact of decision variables on the manufacturing performance. The second is to provide a guide for selecting an alternative or setting the decision variables on the basis of the physical performance analysis results, if management can provide ranking and acceptable limits in terms of their contribution or importance to the manufacturing system. An example of a prototype DSS is also presented.
