This paper presents typical examples showing how production management systems have developed up to the present day in line with technological developments, market changes and the diversity ro human values. It also shows how, when systems are expanded in the light of environmental conditions, the system parameters increase, what kind of parameters have to be taken into consideration on such an occasion, and what effect they have on the characterstics of the systems. Finally, with regard to the design of production management systems, the author looks at the present state and future problems in respect of theoretical studies and of CAM as a tool for processing a large number of system parameters.

This paper discusses the improvement procedure for the problem of assigning facilities to locations. A new heuristic algorithm is proposed. This proposed algorithm takes a considerably shorter computation time for performing the same function as CRAFT.The new algorithm is programmed in FORTRAN IV and tested against existing methods. The results show that this algorithm is unqusetionably the fastest one and makes the same or superior level of solutions.

This paper considers a repairable-item inventory system using a birth and death process of queuing system. Cost function is formulated as a function of the number of spares in a warehouse and teh number of service channels for erpair. Three costs are introduced - the holding cost of spares and failed ltem, the shortage cost of spares and the cost associated with service channels for repair. This paper aims to prove the convexity of the cost function and provide a procedure which determines an optimal policy easily. Then the behaviors of the system are also clarified by varying the relations between parameters.

The steel making practice consists of various manual works and machine operations. A rapid progress in the manufacturing process and reconditioning of election fo equipments have led to frequent amendments of Standard Time and Standard Work.Therefore the determination of Standard Time by means of Direct Time Study and usual way of description of Standard Work require a great deal of labor. Separating the work into the unit operation, the element of operation and the basic motion has made it easy to describe Standard Work, and has made it possible to determine PTS for the element and the basic motion.

This paper studise the sample size determination for time study in Multi-Operator Production System. In this type of Production System, the results of time study for one selected operator apply to the others, after being processed through prevailing rating system. Under these conditions, a method of sample size determenation is presented, which minimizes the total of losses caused by both improper production system desing and operation and cost of work measurement, each depending on the size of sample.

This paper persents a quadratic progromming model for assigning priorities to welfare policies according to diversified people's needs, and gives a simple algorithm to solve this problem. Each need pattern of m classes of people and a set of priorities of n welfare policies are represented as unit vectors u_j(j=1〜m) and υ in R^n respectively, and the model is descrivbed as a problem of finding such υ as maximize the weighted mean of inner products u_j^tυ(j=1〜m) under some introduced criterion The optimal vector υ is obtained uniquely by solving a quadratic progromming problem of the following type for an arbitrary multiplier λ>0;Maximize Z(υ, λ)=cυ+λυ^tυ subject to Hυ&ges 0,υ&ges 0. The paper contains also some examples of calculation to show the appicability of the proposed model.

This study presents a proctical procedure for evaluating economy of the production system which produces a seasonal product. Considering not only fixed costs and variable costs but also semi-variable costs which depend on the production volume and the operation planning, a breakeven analysis is developed to specify : (1) mathematical relationships among the production volume, costs and profits, (2) the production volume which attains the breakeven point, and (3) how to achieve goal profits. Also, to obtain the economic operanion planning, recurrence of dynamic programming model which minimizes semi-variable costs are formulated. Finally, numerical example is presented to explain the procedure proposed.

We shall consider a preventive maintenance policy for a one-unit system with secondary failure. This paper discusses a model in which a perventive maintenance policy for a first failure poeration and a one for failure free poeration are considered simultaneously. Secondary failure (system failure) of a unit never occurs before first failure. It is fo great interest to discuss two different kinds of failure with one non-regeneration point in Markov renewal process. We can derive the mean recurrence time for a certain state, the expected number of visits to a certain state per nuit time, and the limiting probability that the system is in a certain state in the steady-state. Finally we showed some numerical examples.

In this paper, the idea of the group work system is applied to eliminate the balance loss in the flow line. As the result, a theory of flow line system to eliminate the balance loss is suggested and demonstrated experimentally. Naturally, the lower the line balancing efficiency is, the effective system becomes. Furthermore, this system is highly applicable to the manual flow line of small products that do not require so complex skills.

While there exist many goods with seasonal fluctuation in demand, there are few studies on the optimal production planning for such products. This paper first presents several rules for optimal strategy in planning production and sales to maximize profit within regular working hours along with the algorithm. Secondly, this paper presents the rules and algorithm for the case where over-time is permitted.
