This paper deals with an optimal operation planning for the fixed quantity withdrawal Kanban system with variable leadtime and different consumption rate of parts for each period. The behaviour of the optimal planning (the optimal container capacity) which minimizes average total operation cost is shown by means of simulations under various values of parameters : the order cost factor, the range of consumption rate of parts and the range of leadtime for delivery.

The present study is undertaken to obtain the basic data to determine the working area in horizontal plane in consideration of the size of the object at work. We measured the movement of both arms of fifteen right-handed female students in sitting position. The distance between working surface and chair is one third of her sitting height. And the measurements were done in three points of both arms; radiale, stylion and the third phalangion of little finger. Also the measurement was done at seven levels in the forward direction and at ten levels in right and left direction. From the measurement result, the regression equations were obtained. Using these equations, the information of the size of the object at work determines the position of radiale, stylion and the third phalangion of little finger, and also working area dealing with the object at work. Therefore it is very useful to improve the assignment of working area layout.

This study proposes some application algorithms of conceptual clustering, which is a representative machine learning concept, for the data analysis with an objective function. This method provides us with some different features from those of ordinary data analysis methodology, and enables us to obtain an expression which describes clusters as well as their formation. In addition to a directly modified algorithm of conceptual clustering, two types of extended algorithms are considered to increase their discriminant performance. Finally, an implemented algorithm is applied to the job-shop scheduling problem, and it is shown that a superior rule is generated as a result.

This paper deals with the time estimate for reach and move motion. The characteristics of move and reach motion time are considered through five experiments. From the result of experiments, it is found that move motion time is possible to be estimated using four equations in which the variables are distance moved and clearance between objects and that reach motion time is also possible to be estimated using three equations in which the variable is distance moved. Lastly, the characteristics of estimated time values were clarified by their comparison with Methods Time Measurement(MTM) and Detailed Work-Factor Analysis(WF).

The power generation scheduling problem is to determine the hourly start-up/shut-down schedule of all generators, so as to meet the forecasted hourly demand and to minimize the total operating cost. The Lagrangian relaxation method has been studied as the most practical approximate solution method for this problem. The efficiency of the method, however, depends on how to determine the Lagrange multipliers. This paper proposes to estimate the Lagrange multipliers by using the neural network and reports results determined from examining the possibility of applying the backpropagation algorithm to pattern recognitions which presume the relation between power demands and multipliers.

A Study of the G-type periodic ordering system, which can control both order quantity variance and inventory variance, with a demand sequence model with exponential autocorrelation was completed in 1990. Based on the results of this study, this paper aims to design the parameters of the same system with periodically non-zero autocorrelated demand sequence which corresponds to seasonal variation. As a result of the analysis, we obtained the characteristic formulas of order quantity and inventory variance. The results obtained above enabled us to make a table to get the parameters of the system.

In usual statistical data analysis, we describe statistical data by exact values. However, in modern complex and large-scale systems, it is difficult to treat the systems using only exact data. In other words, it occurs that we have to treat non-exact data involving human vagueness. In this paper, we define these data as fuzzy data and propose new methods which can treat the fuzzy data by usual statistical methods. Concretely, using fuzzy data from q populations consisting of regression models, we develop the methods to get the maximum likelihood estimates of their parameters by usual statistical methods under fuzzy observations. Furthermore, we investigate the validity of our methods by computer simulations under realistic situations.

In this paper, we discuss the problems which we meet in developing a practical multiobjective programming system using Goal Programming (GP) with a personal computer (PC). Firstly, about building up the GP model, we propose a two-step-modelling method, by which even PC-users can use the system easily. Then, we study the system's data structure, space problem (memory capacity) and time problem (computing speed). And we also propose the methods to solve or improve the problems. As a result, an applicable package was developed, by which the effectiveness of the methods can be checked.
