Innovation comprises practical innovation based on existing technology and knowledge and exploratory innovation aimed at creating new technology and knowledge. A balance between the two is required for sustaining corporate growth. This research measures and compares the two in the markets for both CD singles and console videogame software. The results revealed that not only is management of the R&D organization necessary, as emphasized in existing research, but that a sales strategy is also needed, which includes pricing strategy, advertising and advertising strategy, and coordination with distribution companies.
