    Management strategy underlies particular competitive actions and provides guidelines and scenarios for leadership of corporate activities that promote consistency. This paper discusses the dual aspects of planned and emergent formulation in the process of instituting strategies as long-term scenarios on the basis of a comparative study of two cases: the home delivery business of Yamato Transport Co. Ltd. and Honda Motor Co.’s North American motorcycle business.
