This paper utilizes industry and corporate research that employs product architecture to summarize the state of leadership of Japanese companies in modularization. Japanese companies focus on the areas of integration to create system control modules and attempt to rationalize design through component design solutions. Modularization by Japanese companies is not a random design activity, but rather the result of a design strategy for the simultaneous optimization of product design and rationalization.
