This study offers an in-depth case study of “AppWorks” in Taiwan which was established in 2009. AppWorks is one of the representative and long-established accelerators in Taiwan and Asia. AppWorks is remarkable due to their excellent strategy. They focus on a specific business field (the internet business/digital economy) and on a specific market area (Greater Southeast Asia). They also manage their own venture funds, through which they invest in promising startups including graduated teams from their accelerator and others. AppWorks has successfully established their own startup community with mutual-aid and “paying-it-forward” culture, which is one of the largest ones in Asia. Their goal is changing the economic development model of Taiwan which has heavily depended on the electronic hardware industry. The main purpose of this paper is to show that an accelerator, like an enterprise, can create an outstanding performance and a unique presence through strategic management. I try to draw the “strategic story” of AppWorks and examine the consistency and individuality of the story.
