This paper discusses the current state of innovation from the perspective of architectural dynamism and asserts that the focus of Japan in the 21st century should be on the innovation of business models undertaken by companies. Until now, American and European companies have perfected local integrated platform models, or perhaps vertically integrated open models. Japanese companies have also created a new business model in equipment-driven industries, namely the creation of production platforms that skillfully incorporate the comparative advantage of NIES or BRICs. These platforms provide mechanisms to convert technology and product innovation into international competitiveness in open environments, and are created through cooperation between industrialized countries and NIES or BRICS in the global market. Moreover, increasing commodification demands more widespread distribution and high profitability. Each are positioned in the final stages of total innovation systems and will only function effectively once intellectual property and standardization have been incorporated into the final stage, known as the business model.
