The mucosa of the tracheobrnchial tree is directly contact with some harmful factors for human body in the resiratory air.
Some of these factors were studied on the human being and the experimental animals as follows.
    (1) Cough reflex
The investigation of the locations of origin and intensity of electric stimulation to make cough on tracheodronchial mucosa were made upon normal and tracheobronchial diseases undergoing bronchoscopy. Also the brain waves produced by electric stimulation on tracheobronchial mucosa were studied from head skin and cortex directly during craniotomy patients.
    (2) Absorptive function
The function of the absorpition of the tracheobronchial mucosa was observed in supravital using various staining agents by microscopic motion pictures. Relations between the movement of the cilia on the mucosa and oxygen metabolism and influence of the temperature were studied on the experimental animals.
    (3) Immunity of the tracheobronchial mucosa
The local immunity of the mucosa which was obtained by whooping cough bacterium and influenza virus and influence of some medicines on the effect of immunity were studied experimentally.

Sixty-six cases of foreign body in bronchi which were seen in our Dept. for the past 17 years since 1946, were statistically analysed. Sex-ratio was double in the female as compared to the male. Vegetable foreign body cases were 60%. Metal foreign body cases and animal foreign body cases were recorded at 8% of 66 cases. 50% of vegetal foreign body cases were beans. Foreign body cases in bronchi are very few in adults as we had only 4 cases. Most of these cases were babies and infants (0-6 yrs. old) and school children (8-14 yer. old). Most of tht former cases were beans and the latter were pencil caps. They mis-inhaled them whilst playing or eating. Their chief complains were cough and dyspnea. Foreign bodies were found twice as many in the Rt. bronchus as in the Lt. bronchus. All of the foreign body cases were x-rayed and among them 5 cases of emphysema and 11 cases of athelectasis were found. 4 cases visited us directly but 53 cases were examined at our Dept. after they had some treatments by the other doctors. 51% out of the 66 cases were examined by us within 24 hours and 2 cases after 6 months.

We have had 3 cases of bronchial foreign bodies, which were peanut, chloramphenical tablet, and chocolate coated raisin.
These objects were easily softened and hardly seen on the x-ray picture. For that reason, we had difficulities of making diagnosis and treatment of foreign bodies without bronchoscopy.
From the results of our studies about the easily softened objects, mentioned above, and their appearences on the x-ray pictures, we suggest to perform bronchoscopy to make a definite diagnosis of such foreign bodies.

A case of bronchial foreign body which had stayed about 17 years is described in a 26-year-old man.
The patient was unaware of aspirating foreign body and was admitted because of severe hemoptysis in Aug. 1962, though foreign body had already been pointed out without extraction in the early spring of 1955. Judging from past history and sudden hemoptysis, foreign body complicated by bronchiectasis was suspected.
Foreign body, which was metalic and hooked, 1cm at the tip, was located in right lower bronchus by x-ray film.
Extraction from right lower bronchus (B9) was successfuly made through tracheotomic bronchoscopy after tracheotomy. Though bronchography before extraction demonstrated bronchiectasis. No unpleasant symptoms and signs were noted for six months after the operation.

We succeeded in removing the go-piece from the oesophagus with the special forceps, on the tip of which a rough rubber piece was sticked. We experimentary tried with the various forceps (usual and special) to grasp and remove the various gopieces, and we concluded that it is necessary to use the special forceps.

Authors reported a case of laryngeal keratosis in a man aged 68, in whom squamous cell carcinoma of larynx was developed during 3 years after endoscopic surgical treatment.
At the same time, 6 cases of laryngeal keratosis in Kyushu University Hospital were collectively observed and in 2 cases of them, squamous cell carcinoma were discovered.
It is concluded that laryngeal keratosis has precarcinomatous character and must be treated as carcinoma by radiation therapy.

The clinical view and the rsults of drug therapy in 144 cases of pharyngolaryngeal neurosis which have been seen by us during past 6 years were reported.
It was recongnized to increase the case in the age of manhood, on the other way in female the largest number of pharyngolaryngeal neurosis were found in the age of thirties and also it was relatively popular in the age of fourties and fifties.
The most part of chief complaints were feeling of foreign body and obstruction in the throat and it was considered that the development of the disease could be mainly due to the strain of mind or body and the difficulty to removing the stress.
Concerning the therapeutic results, we had the price in fluphenazine 79.2%, in perphenazine 66.6%, in brom 50.0%, in chlorpromazine 45.5% and in meprobamate 40.0% which distinguisched in fluphenazine and perphenazine than the others.
