The numbers of chromosomes counted in twenty-two species, five varieties and ten agronomical varieties of
Allium have been reported (Table 1) and of these, those of twelve species, three varieties and ten agronomical varieties (with asterisk in Table 1) are newly determined in the present work. As seen in the table, there are seven kinds of chromosomes in this genus, of which three (7, 8, 9) are a succesive series while the rest seem to be the respective multiples of these. The chromosome number of
A. rubens is not yet precisely determined, though it is known to be over thirty-four.
A. fistulosum var.
viviparum shows a mixoploid tissue in the root-tip (Figs. 3, 4).
